The number of close games we lost in 2022 was pretty crazy. I define "close" as one-score games:

Baylor 31-24
Kansas 14-11
Kansas State 10-9
Texas 24-21
Oklahoma State 20-14
Texas Tech 14-10

Excepting the TCU blowout, we gave up an average of 16 points per game, gave up 14 points points or less in 7/11 games, and went 4-7 in those games, that's wild.
That was one of the best defenses in school history

The Kansas, KSU, and Texas games that year have to be some of the worst losses I’ve watched. Man that year was painful

Well…does that mean Ark State has a good pass defense? If not, then you could make the same case that Iowa's QB is just bad and our pass D isn’t much to talk about. It’s easy to see what you want in games, but Ark State looked fairly tough playing in Michigan. We can def beat them and should…but we'd best come out prepared and ready from minute one.
They really didn't. It was over in the 2nd quarter. Michigan was running all over them.

Just watched the UM-Ark St game. 28-3 with 5 minutes left, UM had over 300 yards on the ground. Some of you are just score watching and worrying about this Ark St team for no reason

We’re afraid of Ark St now?

It’s always possible we lay an egg and play like ****, but like ND we won’t be in any real danger of losing.

As alluded to above, the goal should be to get backups some run before conference play starts.

I wonder which QB Arkansas State will go with. The starter has thrown an INT in all 3 games this year and he only completes 57% of his passes. Their running game is not scary at all, but they do have a couple of good receivers. Rucker is really good.

Their kicker sucks. 1-4 on field goals of 30 or longer. And on 16 kickoffs, not a single touchback. I hope ISU coaches are aware of that and plan to have the blockers ready for us to get a big return or two.

Their run defense is not good. Our o-line needs to dominate them and open holes for Sama and Jackson. Ark St does have a decent pass defense and they force some turnovers, and not bad at getting pressure on QBs. I think we have a nice balance in the run and pass games and put up at least 30 points.

It should help that Ark St just played a physical game against bigger dudes, theyre prob a bit beat up. Now gotta play bigger dudes again. Underappreciated how players get worn down playing physical teams consecutively.

People talking abt Kohl, but this could end up being a game where Jackson and Lee get a lot of time at RB.

Plus, I think Moberly came in to spell Rocco last time that happened.

If we don't play slow, painful offense in the first half then I think we have a great chance to win double digit games this season. We could have manhandled Iowa if it weren't for the play calling in the first half. Rocco has the arm and the weapons to get it done. Noel and Higgins have chances to make NFL squads. I hope we come out firing with an air raid immediately against Arkansas State to show doubters that we are capable of scoring in the 40's.

ISU's situation offensively in the first half (backed up) didn't allow for any 'manhandling'.

And things like Noel's long TD was likely set up from a 1st half trend.

We were pinned back deep for two drives. I understand we couldn't run a lot of plays on those drives. The other drives we just flat out ran vanilla predictable play calling.
