I think they are good enough to be in the tournament. Not good enough to be a 6 seed. Maybe 8/9 is where I'd put them.
They were only 4 point underdogs last night. Advanced stats love them

Can someone explain to me how Saint Mary's RPI is 19 and they're a lock for the tourney? They haven't played ****, have one of the worst non-conference schedules I have ever seen, and the one team they've played with a pulse this year they get pounded every time. I don't get it? I also don't get how Nevada's RPI is 34 and UT Arlington's is 40? WTF? RPI may be the worst rating ever and it is heavily used by the committee....
I don't know how they went from an NIT resume last year to the exact same resume this year and a 6 seed. Last year they even beat Gonzaga which is something they couldnt do in 3 games this year.
They don't and haven't played anyone worth a **** all year outside of Gonzaga and maybe Dayton. Yet they are a 6 seed and 19th in RPI? I just don't see it when I watch them play.Saint Mary's is good
Top 25 in both AdjD and AdjO
Go look at their non-conference schedule. It is is utter garbage. Iowa State played a lot better non-conference schedule than Saint Mary's.Despite what you think of St. Mary's non-con, it is ranked 43rd for non-con SOS. Iowa State's is 121st. They game the system by limiting the terrible teams they play in the non-con. Once they have a solid non-con RPI they roll up wins on easy teams and the RPI isn't going to drop for winning lots of games.
What I don't get is why they are ranked. You can trick the computers, you shouldn't be able to trick writers that cover the game. Yet they do.

Iowa State is projected around or at a 6 seed currently too and Iowa State would run Saint Mary's out of the gym.Agree, Ive seen them play Gonzaga twice this year and they are nowhere near the 6 seed line, maybe an 11 or PIG type of team.
Bracketologists are using those metrics? If so that would make sense, I just dont get how they were in the NIT last year and now all of a sudden they are a 6 seed with 1 less loss.
three or four times. How many times have you watched them play?

And Saint Mary's is nowhere close to that. In my opinion, Illinois State and Saint Mary's have similar resumes, one is a projected 6 seed the other is not getting in. Doesn't make sense.Well yeah we're really really good

If St Marys ends up anywhere near the 6 seed line Im picking a team like Providence or Seton Hall to stomp them every time.
