Breaking Bad

Does anyone else still wonder who Gus was in Chile? I always remember when his partner/lover was killed, and he told Gus I am only sparing you because of who you are, but you are not in Chile anymore. I always wondered when Gus was killed if one of his family would show up, or more of Gus's past would be unveiled. Was he the son of a political figure? a mafia person?

Walt asked Jessie's buddies who was selling and making the meth and realizing it was Jessie in the car after threatening the Schwartz's, I don't think he knew in NH. I think he was going to kill Jessie, but once he saw him, all the feelings he had for saving Jessie rushed in. Just as he had saved Jessie over and over, it repeated. I don't think he intended to live through the gun fire, he only went down to save Jessie.

I think the nods between them of acknowledgement of each other, and the Walt/Skyler scene were the most satisfying of the ending.

Anyone catch Skyler's face reflected in the microwave in that scene? I loved when she said 5 minutes. You just had a feeling when she was talking with Marie, he was standing there.

Not sure if you believe the idea that I subscribe to in which he decided to save Jessie as soon as Skinny Pete told him that they thought he was the one cooking the blue or not, but I think that's when he made up his mind to take down the Nazis and save Jessie since he knew all was lost for him, but that he could still do one final good act to save face, even though only two people would know what he actually did at the end.

The part that's really sticking with me was the look on Skyler's face and her body language as Walt walks out of the room after seeing Holly.

Also, Marie wasn't wearing purple and I don't remember seeing any purple in her house. Does anyone else remember if there was?

I think Walt went there fully intending to kill all the skinheads and Jessie too after Skinny Pete and Badger told Walt they were partners. Walt mentioning Jessie to Jack was his way of a) finding out if Jessie was in fact a business partner, and/or b) getting Jessie into that room to die with everyone else he was about to kill. Only when Walt saw that he was clearly not a partner and more vulnerable than ever, Walt saved him. That entire episode is about Walt righting wrongs and taking care of his family before he goes. By admitting to Skylar that he felt "alive" when he was cooking and saying that cooking was the only thing he ever was great at, I think in a way Walt was also admitting to himself that Jessie had been the closest thing to a family Walt had had for the past two years.

I think there's more to the ending too.

Throughout season 4 and 5, Walt got angry when anyone tried to recreate his product and came up short of his quality standards. When Walt realized he wasnt going to live much longer after taking that bullet, I think he realized he had an opportunity to make sure his legacy lived on. Like the talk with Skylar, it was his way of embracing who he had become and making sure people knew that he was the guy behind it all. If they had just found the lab and a dozen dead nazis close by, they might assume everyone there was in some way responsible for creating the product. But by being found in the lab alone, Walt was betting that the cops would assume he had been the mastermind of every high-quality batch of crystal product made for the last 24 months. I think that's one reason why Walt left the fingerprints and chose to die in the lab, because it was the one place that made him happy and it made sure the Heisenberg legacy was his and his alone.

Curtains were still purple

I have a question.

Knowing what we know now, was Hank's revelation worth it? Or would it have been better had Walt gotten away clean?

I think it was perfect, and on a related note, the number of seasons. Real stories like that rarely last long or have a happy ending. I thought the whole series felt very genuine, even while entertaining the hell out of us and playing with our emotions.

i don't recall. what was it?

If Hank didn't find Walt it would have been over for everyone and people would have lived. But how is Hank supposed to know that? I really believe, from the 15 or so murders Walt committed before the nazis, he would have been found out eventually. Remember - no statute of limitations on murder.

Thought this was pretty awesome:

(the video page on vimeo itself gives this explanation:
When Stephen Colbert talked to Vince Gilligan about the song El Paso used in the season finale of Breaking Bad, he asked if Felina was Jesse or the blue meth, and Vince basically said Felina was the blue meth.. Viewed that way, the song El Paso matches up with not only the scene it was used in and the season finale, but the entire series. So I put the rest of it before and after the actual scene from the finale.

We just started watching this last week...my god, we can't buy the seasons fast enough. I am really not a big fan of series, just because they take so much time/effort to get into and follow. This little piece of heaven, however, is fantastic.

This is pretty well done. Spoilers in here

Just started watching on New Year's Eve and by last night had finished the 1st season (7 episodes) and 5 episodes of the 2nd season.

Awesome show!

I started watching these last week on my free trial of Netflix. I'm midway through season three already. Makes me feel a lot like Dexter did. Just an odd feeling.

I'll definitely be snagging the full series on Blu-Ray before long. This is one of the best TV shows of all time, and I'm not going to keep relying on a sound wifi connection to watch it.

For those that haven't seen the entire thing there is no better television then the last half season. Each episode was better than the last. Amazing.
