Brackins Projected @ #12

In the latest mock draft presented by nbadraft.net Craig Brackins has now moved to the 12th position, which would make him drafted by New Jersey. At least the way they see it playing out. What you guys think about this, early in the year he wasn't even projected for this years draft, at best he was a second rounder next yr. Do you think that he will be gone?

I'm going out on a limb here ... but I think this is the first projection of him anywhere over #20 overall.

It's newsworthy on its own, weither we want to see it or not.

Yes, but this projection has only been posted in like 3 or 4 other threads. I hope he goes if he is a lottery pick, because I think in the end it's just as good for Mac and ISU with the positive development of Brackins earlier than projected and a recruiting boost.

I agree it may be good for ISU and McDermott in the long run. I don't doubt it might help recruit some big guys that want to end up in the NBA. The problem is that Brackins leaving would set the program back next season and it might be enough to dissuade those potential recruits if we struggle again. Worst case scenario McD gets let go after a season or 2 trying to recover from the loss of Brackins before he expected it. Unless we think JVB and Ham are ready to be full time players in the post, I don't see how any good can come out of it for ISU basketball in the short term.

Nah, I'm not even annoyed by it, just felt like a little good natured ribbing was in order. But I guess we have to agree to disagree, because Mac turning a player from a undersized limited offensively 4 his freshman year to a (I think) all-american lottery pick sophomore is astounding. And if that doesn't help recruiting I'll be shocked. I agree that it certainly won't help our potential record next year though.

I fear you're right. It's a game of temptation. The "experts" list him high just to see what his reaction is. They want to get a feel for whether or not he wants to go, so they're going to keep putting pressure on him until he makes up his mind. Unfortunately they don't care if they press someone into a bad decision, because by the time the draft rolls around, they're egging on the next round of maybes.

Did anyone catch the ESPN piece a few weeks ago about the #1 high school recruit from a couple years back who skipped college to play in Europe for ~1.5 mil? He was treated like crap and was only paid on time once in his time there. His message was clear; go to college and pay your dues. I hope Craig sees through his own hype. He's really good now, but he'll be great next year.

I guess I just don't get it. CB is pretty darn good, but that seems very high to me. He is way short on the physical aspect of pro ball, and he is playing on a team with no other scorers. That is a pretty lofty number for a guy that might be the 5th or 6th best player in his league.

He could own the Big 12 next year a la Griffin or Beasley or Durant did in the past. Craig Brackins could get a lot out of staying one more year. If it was football - I'd say yes, if you're a first or second round lock, you go. I just don't like the risk of injury in football. Severe, career-threatening injuries just aren't as risky in basketball. And I really believe CB is still a year away from really tearing it up as a rookie in the NBA.
