***Bowl Games Thread***

It's obviously going to be all Sermon for the rest of the game and Clemson can't even locate him on the field.

The rule is dumb. People’s understanding of it is terrible. And the ejection is stupid. But shut the **** up and get over it.
Thank you dad for telling us all how to feel. Sorry I am sick and tired of watching key players get tossed on this thing that is NOT an intent to hurt (Burfict-style hit). It drastically affects the game, and I say that whether it helps or hurts the team I am cheering for.

You guys are morons. Fields initiated the contact to the head. The defender had his head to the side and hit with the shoulder. All head contact was because Fields spun.
And for the morons who disagree here is the rule.

Targeting and Making Forcible Contact With the Crown of the Helmet
ARTICLE 3. No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of his helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 9-6) (A.R. 9-1-3-I)

The rule requires forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of the helmet. It isn’t just that you lower your head. The defender didn’t forcibly contact Fields with his head.

We understand the rule. We just happen to think it's a stupid rule in that type of situation. The ejection on a hit like that is idiotic.

Couldn’t disagree more, it was a dirty play dropping the crown of his helmet and just gave them a chance to get back in this game with Fields hurt. He deserves to be ejected. This wasn‘t one of those awkward plays where the defensive player didn’t have intent on a bad hit, 100% intentional targeting.

Leading with the crown of your helmet leads to very bad things.

Clemson is a great example of a storied program in a weak conference getting by because of their name. They are nothing like the teams they’ve had the past 8 years, especially on Defense.

We are going to just disagree on that one as far as the intent to injure goes. That's just a physical hit on a player as shifty as Fields where he happened to pop him good.

Man, terrible tackling by Clemson. They are going to get flat our ripped by the coaches at halftime.

Lowering the helmet like that is a good way for the defender to get a concussion or end up paralyzed. The rule is 100% that way for a reason.

The penalty of an ejection is dumb, but this particular rule makes sense.
I understand that, but it should be called both ways then. How many offensive players lower their heads. Why aren’t they being protected by the rule?

And that happens all the time and it is not called. This was only called here because the QB decided not to slide and got hurt.
