Bowl Game

First semi bama vs OU
Second semi ISU versus Florida.

I’m with you.

I can understand this but have a feeling if they would be going to a better bowl/location this wouldn't be happening.

I agree. I don't think the more prestigious bowls will have any problems finding teams to play in them but once you get past the top 15 or so games I think you'll see tons of opt outs.

Playing a bowl game is generally a slight money loser for the school in normal times, but with bowl payouts getting slashed everywhere playing in a mid or low tier bowl game isn't an easy decision.

Have the orange bowl one of the semi final sites this season and next year the rose bowl can be a semi final site you can have some fans at the orange bowl problem solved.

But that eliminates a NY6 Game + the National Championship Game is in Miami. So, they need to find a place to host the Rose Bowl (like Atlanta hosted the Sugar Bowl in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina), but not to replace another NY6 Bowl.

As someone pointed out, the Rose bowl was already played on the east coast in 1942 out of fear the Japanese would attack the west coast. Seems something similar could be arranged. I've thought for a long time a lot of the lower tier bowls will opt out. Way too many of them any way. Is a 6-5 BC team opting out of a lower tier bowl really that surprising?

Turning down extra practice days with your team seems silly and short sighted

Normally, I would agree but with Covid protocols for players and fans not able to attend some bowl games, I am sure some schools opt out of playing bowl games.

Also, this year the window between a teams last game and bowl game might be less than 2 weeks. Other than their conference championship games- the SEC, ACC and Big 10 are all scheduled to have games on Dec 19. During a normal bowl season might pick up 4-5 weeks of extra practice.

My guess is schools could easily look at it this way:

Last Game - Dec 12 or 19
Bowl Game - 2+ weeks away
2nd Semester Classes start - Jan 27ish
>>> Decision: Send kids home to their families for a month.

How about @ Legion Field in Birmingham as a replacement for the Birmingham Bowl - which is already scheduled on Jan. 1st on ESPN?

Looks like the Frisco Bowl is next Saturday (Championship Saturday) yikes! The bowl selection show isn’t until Sunday

Lol no. No there isn’t.

If a bowl offers, there is a 100% chance that they accept and tout it as Frost getting them back to a bowl. What I'm really hoping for is that the bowls are desperate and essentially offer spots to anyone, Nebraska accepts and then the big 10 prohibits it, while allowing tOSU to play in the cfp.
