Booker's post game tweet

Percy was good when no one knew how strong he was going left. He needs to spend all summer developing a right hand. Then he'll be more useful.

And learn how to pass when he doesn't have an open look. Him throwing up stupid shots hurts us more than Ellerman would being out there.

Ejim isn't a big. He's been thrown into that position and he's playing his butt off, but he doesn't have the size to block the shots of or deter penetrators (which should be obvious from the way ISU is abused in the paint) or the size to finish on offense in a crowd of bigger players.

Last night, in OT, Ejim got the ball, put his defender on his back, and was two feet from the basket, with defenders closing in. He passed out for three that was missed. And I don't blame him for passing out, because his shot would have had a good chance of being blocked by the bigger defenders. With a true big, at a minimum, that play should have resulted in 2 FT attempts, and more likely a dunk and chance for a 3pt play. On another occasion in OT, Ejim was driving for a dunk and got blocked from behind by UT's center (who isn't exactly have jump-out-of-the-gym capability). Another time in OT, he got pushed to the floor fighting for position, which resulted in a TO.

Ejim is playing his heart out at a position that he doesn't have the size and strength for right now. I sincerely hope he is being forced to play post because of the issues with Booker and Gibson, and that Hoiberg doesn't expect a 6'6" 230 pound kid to enforce the post in the Big 12.

What reason would you have to think anything else. If i was to speculate I would say that Bookers attitude is in the dumps and he isn't practicing well and possibly being standoff-ish with the team and coaches. Gibson on the other hand has struggled mightily on both ends of the floor. Wouldn't you think a guy who likes to coach match-ups and mis-matches like Fred would like to have options depending on the opponent? Of course he would, fact is he just doesn't right now, I hope Booker can get his **** figured out before the end of the season, otherwise having him around will only hurt the team.

Fred knows what he's doing and this team is just a few bad breaks (and bad calls) away from being near the top of the conference, so there's no reason to panic. I thought last night the big mistake was Will not covering Papawhatshisname after he inbounded the pass, and he was left wide open for a great look at a 3. I'm sure Will was expecting the foul to occur right away, so again some bad luck to go along with some bad breaks. But the NCAA is still out there for us and we're good enough to get there. It would help if the breaks at the end of games would even out a little, and maybe that will happen. Now if we don't bounce back Saturday, then we worry, but I don't expect that to happen.

The big mistake was on Fred to not even guard the inbounding player with a big man. That whole play was a giant fail. Barnes must have been laughing his *** off that UT got such a wide open look, squared up, with a decent shooter.

You could be right or it could be Will was suppose to be on him as he ended up standing around and guarding nobody. Will has had great games for us but last night he didn't have a strong finish, his last turnover in regulation was unforced and a killer. I'd agree last night we did not finish the game well. Bubu's foul was too early too, giving Texas the option to make both free throws and still foul with plenty of time left. But it's often a chaotic situation in the last seconds of a close game and mistakes are often made. We'll bounce back.

Although ISU had issues in the final minute, last night's problems went beyond that. In regulation, UT was 21-30 (70%) in 2pt shots. They usually shoot about 47% for 2pt shots. ISU needs better defense throughout the entire game. The game should have never been close enough for what happened in that last minute to matter.

Are you sure about this, i know for the entire game (including the 2OT) they were about 50% from two and 28% from three. Meanwhile we where 35% from two and 33% from three and still should have won.

Who was guarding the in-bound pass I can't even remember, I know Clyburn often does as he is 6'7" with a big wingspan. If I recall they had some trouble getting the ball in and were close to 5 seconds.

Here's what I get from the box score. Maybe I'm doing it wrong...

1st half overall 13-26, 1st half 3 pt 4-16, which would make 1st half 2pt 9-10
2nd half overall 13-24, 2nd half 3 pt 1-4, which would make 2nd half 2pt 12-20
For regulation that makes 21-30 on 2 pt shots.

my mistake I was looking at overall FG %, however when you said "They usually shoot about 47% for 2pt shots" did you actually mean overall, because that is a pretty terrible percentage from 2. Lammert made some really lucky shots in that game that helped their 2 pt% out a little, one they showed on replay and the announcers said I bet he didn't want us to replay that one (he basically lost the ball on the way up and it just went in).

Hell, he BETTER feel like crap! In 7 minutes of play last night he went 0-5 from the floor with 1 turnover, 1 rebound, and 1 foul. It was as bad a performance from an Iowa State player as I can remember seeing, even in limited minutes. It was stunning and breathtaking in its putridity.

Look, college basketball isn't little league baseball where every kid gets trophy just for being on the team. When a player puts that kind of effort out on the floor in a crucial road game, they can expect to be hammered for it. If he had come off the bench and gone 3-5, 4-5 from the floor to give us some big points in a tight road victory we'd be singing his praises today, and rightly so.

I think he has the potential to be a solid player down the road for us, but we sure as hell didn't see it last night.

He had the ball ripped away/snatched from himself a couple of times also. Time to step up because we have a large void in the middle at end of games.

Other than Clyburn, the shooter had a clear path to step in from out of bounds. The other four were doing their laundry.

Actually Clyburn was closest and it looked like he was suppose to be on him and wasn't. Babb was on top of the key guarding his guy and Will just seemed sort of lost. We'll learn from it.
