Yes, you are correct. And they both are male.Am I correct in saying that looks like a pair of American Goldfinches?

I've got a couple killdeer on one of the routes that I run on. They are there every time so assuming it is by a nest. Have never seen one in flight though - great looking in the air. The ones I see on my jog just run around and squawk at me a lot. Haven't even gotten to see them do the limp wing thing they are known for. Great pictures.View attachment 150169
My fist sighting of a Killdeer. My trusty old cat Purdy chased it into flight- you might say the Purdy and I tag teamed the Killdeer to get this in-flight image. The bottom image the Killdeer flew right at me and it is looking at the camera. View attachment 150170 View attachment 150171

My cat Purdy on the hunt.
Are they trying to lure you away from their nest? If you are real close they will feign a broken wing like mourning doves.I've got a couple killdeer on one of the routes that I run on. Idk I'm running so mostly just trying not to die. They are probably more likely just trying to get out of my way if pass out.Are they trying to lure you away from their nest? If you are real close they will feign a broken wing like mourning doves.
After reading posts on here, I installed Merlin and now I'm obsessed! Lol
It is identifying birds I've never seen (on the banks of the Mississippi in NE IA) especially varieties of warbler and videos, Now I've spotted the prothonotary warbler.
Or wear hearing aids like me, they really dont pick it all up.It's a great tool. Some experienced birders like to mock it but it's great for peeps like me that only know a handful of bird calls. Just have to be sensible with some of the stuff it calls out. It's right most of the time but not all of the time. Still, a great resource to give you a clue as to what you might look for.
@BoxsterCy, have you seen the nesting loons at Clifton French Park? They are not on Medicine Lake proper but on an inlet with a boardwalk and fishing pier across the road from the beach/sailing club/boat launch. Saw the nest with one loon on it yesterday. Was surrounded by turtles sunning themselves. We didn't see any activity at the section of beach they have fenced off for turtle egg laying.
