The OL was good with Downing. I'm not sure why so many people are railing on them. Depth is a concern, but Hall had 80+ yards at half, and we were actually getting to the 2nd level. We didn't get beat on the line (2nd half was bad on OL, I'll give you that). Our DL shut down their running game. We got burned on two returns, plain and simple. And their secondary and linebackers beat up our receivers and tight ends. We got beat on the outside, but we got absolutely slaughtered when it came to coaching/preparation.

It takes youth or an overall lack of awareness to even have a thread with this title.

It appears we can't afford Downing or Kolar to get hurt. When Downing left the game, it reminded me back in the Rhoads era when Farniok would get hurt, the line would fall off massively.

Campbell hasn’t been able to address the two biggest issues with Iowa State football... bad line play (on both sides) and poor tackling. It’s really that simple. The recruiting for offensive and defensive lineman has not improved and the development hasn’t either.

lmao... DLine past couple years, including this year has been damn good. DL talent and play has been a 180 degree turnaround since cmc took over..

OL however...

Best quarterback in school history, best coach in school history, “talented” o-line, “best team in school history” proceeds to lay an absolute egg. I should have seen it coming

It was bad but I still have nightmares of 2 missed field goals (Missouri here and KU there) that would have given us North Titles and those Mizzou and KU teams weren't as good as Louisiana.

Thing here is, if you play Louisiana 10 times, we don't win 1/2 of them. They were a better team. I am not sure we will see a secondary that good the rest of the year.

ISU has been here before, how/if we bounce back will determine how the season turns out - how confident am I? I am doubling beer inventory for TCU game....

We'll see a better secondary against TCU.

I was doing the old 10 game series thing laying in bed last night and thought we might get 2 or 3 out of 10. That’s sad.

Yes, and I have been a fan for thirty years. This team finally has the resources they need, has the most dedicated fan base I’ve ever seen, and are recruiting better players. For them to come out and lay an egg like this is disgusting. This one is totally on the coach and it doesn’t seem like he cares, or he doesn’t get it.

Calling out CMC, didn't age very well.
You aren't alone. Guessing many will be rushing to delete previous quotes.

It's really boring to go back and second guess stuff like this anyway. We have beat Baylor, OU, Texas, Kstate, Kansas, TCU, and Texas Tech. We lost to SE Louisiana and Okie State. I think everyone who believes in Science would still say "prove it".

yeah Louisiana beat us. That’s when I typed this.He has been super underwhelming at times and super overwhelming at times. Earl Bruce and Johnny majors are bothhall of fame coaches. Nothing I said in that post is really even disputable. I think he is a good coach. Nowhere did I say he wasn’t
Majors had one winning season in Ames. Bruce had 36 wins in six years. Campbell has 33 in less than 5 years.

it was a different time . If you were around back then, I was, our facilities were soooo bad compared to other big 8 teams. The fact that we won a few games was a major accomplishment. So much so that major powers like Ohio state and Tennessee swoopedin and took our coaches even with the record they had. We were so bad we hired Criner, Duncan, and Walden who were never even considered good coaches when we hired them. Nobody else wanted the job. Campbell has a huge paycheck, facilities to
Compete. Can’t just compare records

What coach did Tennessee take? I know Bruce reluctantly went to Ohio state and Johnny went to Pittsburgh, just not sure who went to Tenn.

you are correct. I forgot he went to Pitt three years before Tennessee. Pitt was a good program back in the day. My point stands though

Majors never beat a ranked opponent with Iowa State.
