Big 12 vs Big Ten Debate

Could add some of the G5 teams in that as well that get pushed way higher than they should be.

If i were the tinfoil hat-wearing type i'd say that kind of inflation is intentional to increase the chances to end up with P2 teams in the final 2\4 games, where a Big 12 team has a higher chance of ruining the party the way TCU did a few years back.

Yeah it was like with 2-3 weeks left where some G5 programs were really irrationally above some Big 12 teams including ISU. Just by chance it got sorted out mostly.

That is my point entirely. Iowa State, Utah, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Kansas, TCU likely the class of the Big 12 this year. If they look like dog crap against other P4 conferences I am all ears.
Yeah that’s why you shouldn’t listen to an Iowa podcast/show. The only thing they have is to be proud of a conference because they can’t do anything themselves. It’s like if miss st is banging the drum for the SEC.

I think you’re a bit off of it being only OSU (Michigan did win a natty 2 years ago) but they certainly are the most consistent at delivering at a high level

I was listening to Two Guys Named Chris on Iowa Everywhere earlier today and there was discussion regarding the Big 12 should only be a 1 bid team to the CFP because they did not fare well in week 1 games against other P4 conferences.

Ok...so a bottom half of the league Cinci took Nebraska to the wire with 80,000 Cornhusker fans in the stands. Colorado (who is clearly trying to rebuild and will likely finish near the bottom of the Big 12) also takes GTech to the wire. And Baylor craps the bed against Auburn. All other Big 12 teams win and the majority of them blowout wins. Utah dominates UCLA and TCU currently taking it to UNC. IMO, Colorado, Cincy, and possibly even Baylor are all bottom half Big 12 teams this year. Lets see how upper half Big 12 teams look this week (Iowa/Iowa State, Kansas/Mizzou, Arizona State/Miss St, Stanford/BYU) and lets talk.

Meanwhile, in the Big Ten, UCLA gets absolutely throttled at home against Utah and Northwestern is laughed off the field by Tulane! And the Big Ten gets a pass...why? Simple. They get a pass because of Ohio State.

My question...take Ohio State away and who is the better conference this year top to bottom?
It started with the Cincinnati loss. Everyone was saying "that's a bad look for the Big 12". What? Cincinnati finished in 11th place last year, and barely lost to Nebraska on a "neutral field" where 95% of the fans in the stadium were Huskers.

I also see media members ripping on the Big 12 for KState's slow start because they were "the favorite to win the conference". It's not the Big 12's fault you dumb ***** picked last year's 8th place team to win the conference this year.

Who is saying these are bad losses? Cinci was a touchdown underdog, and I think most of the other big12 losses were also underdogs.

The K state game should raise eyebrows but that has a ton of circumstances. Theo not issue is if cinci, Baylor, Colorado knock off some of the ranked squads. If they finish in the bottom like expected without any upsets those games don’t really matter. Would be nice to win but also they lost to other bottom conference teams from the P4

I understood ASU and even Utah above ISU, but I really was scratching my head what made KSU better than ISU. They're similar programs and ISU has been a little better. ISU basically played a second string defense last year and KSU couldn't best them...plus Rocco is possibly the most tested returning player in Big 12.

With 16 teams I'm never going to feel like B12CCG is likely...because 3rd out of 16 is pretty great year and still misses it...but ASU, Utah, TCU and even KU and BYU all seemed more likely to beat ISU for the spot than our similar but inferior rival.

Daniels is back, did none of them watch KU at the end of the year? KU was OBVIOUSLY better than KSU second half of season.

Big 10 is very top heavy with Ohio State, Penn State, and Oregon. Then they have the unknowns with Michigan and USC. The top of the Big 10 wins hands down, no question. After that though, the Big 12 has a lot of interesting teams that could make noise in the playoff. Utah looked really good, Arizona State was a missed targeting call from beating Texas last year, ISU looks good so far, Texas Tech spent more money than anyone else, TCU is looking good right now, and who knows with BYU.
Since it is 16 teams vs 18 teams, take the top 8 and bottom 8 of B1G and stack up against Big 12. End of season standings: B1G probably takes top 2 spots. Rest of 14 we'll have to see how it plays out but I would bet Big 12 would go above .500 in head to head.

TCU just played in a Natty...what is that worth this year?

I'm pretty sure Georgia Tech is expected to compete for the ACC title. At least, according to preseason polls which are almost worthless.

If they didn’t get obliterated and then immediately go 5-7 it would have counted for a lot. The win against Michigan I still have a massive bias against but can’t deny it they earned it (for sure felt differently in the aftermath). If the big12 can get a TCU or ISU to rattle off some good playoff wins and have consistently good years narratives can slowly change. That drop off from TCU really hurt the perception

You just know Oregon blows the doors off Okie St (with their backup QB) this week and Big Ten fans are all "welcome to a real conference." Any mention of Utah naming the score against UCLA and their $3 million QB a week earlier immediately dismissed.

Oh and by the way Utah didnt exactly light the Big 12 on fire last year...

And the dropoff Michigan had at 8-4 last year was so much different?

Who did TCU beat in the semis that year again?

Oh I’m aware and yeah Michigan had a big drop off, lost a coach, QB, and a ton of talent to the NFL. That’s the point, Michaign wasn’t a good team last season even though they did end up with wins against OSU and bama.

Those wins combined with the reciting gives Michaign more love then is likely deserved to start this season. I’m assuming a loss next week will see a drop in the rankings but the schedule is very easy this year.

What is really dumb is if that Cincy QB back shoulders that last throw the Big 12 is 2-0 against the Big Ten (both road games, yes Arrowhead was a road game for Cincy) and 3-2 against other P4 conference teams after the game tonight. But whatever the Big 12 showed so poorly because Baylor is a pretender with a head coach who won't make it through the year.

Even without tOSU the B1G has an elite top end with PSU, Oregon, Michigan that, with Texas and OU gone, the Big 12 just doesn't have. The top 2-3 of the Big 12 would fall in right under them, and then the middle tiers are what they are, pretty comparable.

I bet they don't talk about 2 Big 12 teams, TCU and Utah, obliterating P4 teams this weekend.

Elite brands, yes. Of course. Take the logo on the helmets away, THIS year, you are absolutely certain Penn State, Oregon, Illinois and Mich are that much better than Arizona State, Utah, Iowa State and Texas Tech?

I dont know that is where the NFL is so much better than college football. When the ball is snapped, doesnt matter if you have a Jacksonville Jaguar helmet or Dallas Cowboy helmet. You have equal opportunity to make the playoffs and your play on the field decides that.

Well if you have a cowboys or jags helmet on this year I don’t think you really have the opportunity to make the playoffs lol

Ok so after we take away the B1G's best team tOSU, yes this year's teams I see:

PSU > ASU
Oregon > Utah
Michigan > Iowa St.
