Big 12 Tournament Vibes

Haven't seen it noted that Arizona State fired their coach on the eve of our game vs ASU. I finally realized that the new court is clay. Not liking the dimness of the court.

Hopefully we avoid a sleepy spot in sooner than expected rematch vs the fighting Bobby Hurley's. Then get on to a better game with better environment Thursday.

Been attending the Big 12 tourney in KC for 25+ years (skipped Dallas and OKC). The vibe this year seems down for ISU fans. Ticket board seems awfully quiet.

What gives? Economy? No trust in our play?

Weather should be OK. Looks like rain will stay away.

LFG!!
I booked my hotel and tickets two weeks ago thinking we were going to earn the double bye and I imagine a lot of other fans did too. If we beat ASU, there will be loads of Cyclone fans on their way down for the Thursday game against Tech...and if we beat Tech, well then KC will turn into true Hilton South.

That said, one game at a time...beat ASU!

This.

Falling out of the double bye within a few short weeks was unthinkable as of February 21. Enthusiasm is understandably down. At that point, we had 3 "ranked" games left, and the thought of losing all 3 would have (correctly) been considered a collapse. Since we were announced as a 1 seed in the early bracket reveal (and deservedly so), we have only been able to beat Utah and ASU. There is really no other way to put it other than - it has been a very disappointing finish to the regular season.

IMO it's a reality of expanded conferences. Prior to expansion, the energy on Wednesday night in P&L district was pretty mooted. The crazy environment didn't start until Thursday.

I suspect that with 16 teams, that muted energy will now apply to Tue/Wed and Tournament atmosphere will kick in tomorrow. That said, the Big12 was fortunate this year with ISU playing early and BYU with Dybantsa tonight.

It was definitely toned down in the P&L, but I hadn't ever been there for an early Wednesday game either. Tomorrow will be much better for several reasons.

It was nice of a bar inside the P&L to announce 'free Miller Lite for the next 15 minutes'. For anyone. As much as you wanted. We grabbed probably 10 cups and saved over $100 because of that generosity.
