After looking at the ESPN Insider recruiting rankings a little more closely, I'm starting to get a good feeling that we might turn the corner next year.

2010 - 28 commits; 7 ***'s
2011 - 27 commits; 7 ***'s
2012 - 21 commits; 13 ***'s
2013 - 25 commits; 1 ****, 22 ***'s
2014 - 25 commits; 1 ****, 23 ***'s
2015 - 16 commits; 1 ****, 14 ***'s

The staff seemed to make a marked improvement in 2013. That was the Lanning, Campos, Cotton-Moya, Meeks, class. Those guys were obviously RS FR this year.

Help is on the way. This staff is clearly working very hard on improving the talent. We're getting closer to seeing the payoff.

I'm counting on it as is everyone else. Sadly there will be several not renewing tickets till they see fruits of the harvest!

I hope so. I think Rhoads has a good staff, and agree that recruiting hasn't been as bad as it is sometimes portrayed (although still no better than 9th in the league). A lack of quality depth has put this staff on borrowed time after consecutive years where ISU looked like they weren't close to competing, they may not be around to see the players they recruited grow into intended roles.

I hope they get it done.

Our recruit rankings are roughly the same as Kansas State, and they do darn well relative to the rest of the conference. So, noticing the rest of the conference's classes hardly overrides the significance of the improvement in our own.

Our recruiting doesn't have to improve a whole lot to avoid the 2-10 seasons. Just need to keep the upper classmen in our program healthy and out of trouble.

Wow, those first 3 years were rough. I know we're not at all where we'd like to be right now but this proves that we're heading in the right direction. Still going to take solid effort from our young guys to get to 6 wins but it's definitely possible in 2015.

I sure hope so. I want Rhoads to succeed and lead the program into the future. But if the recruiting classes are getting better, then the W-L record needs to reflect that in 2015. So 2015 is the make or break season for CPR, which is pretty much what all the level headed posters on this site have been saying since last spring.

With 4 home games in our first 6 games next year, those waiting to see the fruits of the harvest will pretty much miss out on things.

In all honesty, I see some fallout. But probably not as drastic as some might think. Iowa State Fans are a lot like Chicago Cubs fans.

That theory is going to be put to the test next September. If there isn't some positive buzz around the team going into the season I think you're going to be proven wrong about fan attendance.

Nice job on the research - can you include the average number of BCS offers each year?

Confirms what I've always thought. Recruiting took a hit in '10-'12 because we weren't even sure if we were gonna be a power 5 conference team. Tough to recruit with that weighing against you. Now that our existential crisis is over, recruiting has gone up. It's not a miracle, but it's progress.
