Better this year?

The biggest factor in ISU having a good season is Jantz. Having a good QB makes a huge difference.

Absolutely.

Step 1. Get a QB that can throw the ball on time and on target.
Step 2. Get receivers that can catch passes.
Step 3. Practice your touchdown celebrations.... Wait... Celebrating will take points off of the board this year. Damn it. :realmad:

get a coach that calls good plays
get an offensive line that gives the QB time
get some money that keeps those coaches around. and hey, maybe pay some players to come in and help you win a NC

When I was watching the highlights of the Texas game last year something hit me. Arnaud did an outstanding job when the pocket started to collapse, he moved just enough to get out of harms way. He did that a lot last season. Now this did not necessarily lead to a big gain or a gain at all every time but it did save several negative plays which is huge. I hope we can see some of that this year. (hopefully we do not have to worry about it though.:spinny:)

I sure hope Jantz is the answer for this season. I have been pulling for him all along. I am not saying he is all Big 12 material but if he is as good as I think he can be I have a feeling ISU will be fighting for a bowl game at the end of the season which I think is a huge deal.

More depth? How do we know this?

Our recruiting hasn't changed much the past few years.

Coaches say crap like that all the time. It means little once the season starts.

Receivers--it's one position I'm positive we've taken a step back on. Might not be a big step back, but a step back.

Jantz certainly couldn't be much worse than our past QBs.

People keep calling me "negative" but I don't feel that is true. I'm quite pleased with our head coach and our program. I understand who we are and where we've come from. This thread has a natural negative slant. I just think there's a lot of blind faith and group think going on here.

And, most of all, I HATE HATE the melt down that will inevitably happen when this team starts to struggle and they WILL struggle. I hate all the finger pointing and badmouthing of the coaches that goes on. Am I intentionally being a wet blanket because of this? You better believe it.

I know, right, with that **** *** schedule that your hawks play this year, if they go 7-5, there will be lots of melting down.

Im not saying people are saying we are going to be alabama, but they are saying 'we know the defense will be good this year'. There is no evidence to suggest we have a good defense. We have an average to below average defense mostly because of the DL. We were ranked 80 something in rush defense last year, 60 something in passing yards allowed, 80 something in passing efficiency rating. 87 in overall defense. Im assuming probably around 11th in the big 12 in defense.

I said the defense would be improved but they will have to make major improvements to be a considered a good defense, especially against the run. And increasing weight doesn't mean they will be better defensively. Getting a rest doesn't mean they will be better. All it means is we a stronger, more rested average to below average DL. Maybe they will prove me wrong but I have yet to see any evidence to suggest otherwise and neither does anyone else.

Poor assumption, conference only stats ISU finished 6th in total defense. Started off fair and played very good teams which screwed the overall stats. Finished with an above average defense.

Watch the interviews with the coaches, they say the defense will be better.

HA. Enjoyable read. I really like seeing how everyone is convinced that we would be much improved due to QB play without ever seeing SJ take a snap for us. It is also amusing reading how many playmakers we are going to have at WR, and how we have had several strong recruiting classes that have now had a couple years in the system and how great of a coach CPR is, and how much depth we have.

Flash forward to today and we have the front page full of threads on how awful we are at QB, how we still don't have the talent at WR to run our offense, how our recruiting hasn't been good enough to compete in this league, and about how much longer CPR gets to prove himself, and how we are dinged up and just don't have the depth to cover it. I sure hope that the posters from this thread aren't out slinging mud in some of the threads out there today!

I would just like to say that the defense is not better. They are giving up more points per game than last year and the Dline is still not very good just like I thought.
