Absolutely.
Step 1. Get a QB that can throw the ball on time and on target.
Step 2. Get receivers that can catch passes.
Step 3. Practice your touchdown celebrations.... Wait... Celebrating will take points off of the board this year. Damn it. :realmad:
More depth? How do we know this?
Our recruiting hasn't changed much the past few years.
Coaches say crap like that all the time. It means little once the season starts.
Receivers--it's one position I'm positive we've taken a step back on. Might not be a big step back, but a step back.
Jantz certainly couldn't be much worse than our past QBs.
People keep calling me "negative" but I don't feel that is true. I'm quite pleased with our head coach and our program. I understand who we are and where we've come from. This thread has a natural negative slant. I just think there's a lot of blind faith and group think going on here.
And, most of all, I HATE HATE the melt down that will inevitably happen when this team starts to struggle and they WILL struggle. I hate all the finger pointing and badmouthing of the coaches that goes on. Am I intentionally being a wet blanket because of this? You better believe it.
Im not saying people are saying we are going to be alabama, but they are saying 'we know the defense will be good this year'. There is no evidence to suggest we have a good defense. We have an average to below average defense mostly because of the DL. We were ranked 80 something in rush defense last year, 60 something in passing yards allowed, 80 something in passing efficiency rating. 87 in overall defense. Im assuming probably around 11th in the big 12 in defense.
I said the defense would be improved but they will have to make major improvements to be a considered a good defense, especially against the run. And increasing weight doesn't mean they will be better defensively. Getting a rest doesn't mean they will be better. All it means is we a stronger, more rested average to below average DL. Maybe they will prove me wrong but I have yet to see any evidence to suggest otherwise and neither does anyone else.
Bump...
Poor assumption, conference only stats ISU finished 6th in total defense. Started off fair and played very good teams which screwed the overall stats. Finished with an above average defense.
Watch the interviews with the coaches, they say the defense will be better.
