Maybe it's because I rarely eat breakfast while in the metro but it seems like places like KC have so many good spots compared to us.

Add Minneapolis and Dallas. Have yet to have a bad Continental breakfast at any Hotel. Best Western in Blaine was so good we debated on staying another day just so we could have breakfast one more time.

Ablerados breakfast burritos are huge and pretty good. Royal Mile also has really good breakfast and their biscuits and gravy are amazing

I don't live in Ames but I return a few times a year and have breakfast at The Café (Ames, Somerset) and it's daughter restaurant Provisions (south side in ISU Research Park). Each dish will have an ingredient you aren't familiar with which turns some people off as "snooty" but they are all delicious and good portions.

Word to wise, both have a "waitlist" you can join via link on their google maps location, to help shorten time in line at restaurant. Their menus may be pared back post-Covid, or have more brunch/lunch added in.

In Des Moines I like La Mie (the smoked salmon tartine) and I enjoyed my one visit to St Kilda's.

As you may gather I am not the fan of the huge heavy plate lumberjack combo etc. - I like the "poached eggs and sourdough" type stuff. The two in Ames have the most food, and really pretty reasonable ($7-$12) - comparable to a Denny's and cheaper than a buffet, and way fresher.

We used to go to the Hotel Fort Des Moines for their breakfast every Sunday. Had waffles and Omelets made to order plus the Buffet with all the normal stuff (Bacon, Sausage, hash browns, toast, etc.) and drinks for $34 for the wife and I. Not cheap but it was really good and not many knew about it.

Not a full breakfast but Coaches Kolaches are pretty darn solid. Owned by ISU alum and FB player Brent Curvey.

PS they are in Clive and some where else in the Metro area I think.
Wonder if they could bring a truckload up to sell to tailgaters?

Mullets is my favorite in Des Moines but also good in that general area is Railroad Bill's Dining Car or Truman's brunch.

What the heck are those, I'm guessing the 2 in the back are the same, but the 2 in the front each look different. They do look good though.

I’m pretty sure you’re joking but if not you need to try the Mi Lindo truck that’s on NE 14th in DM just north of the 80 exit. Big tasty breakfast burritos, only downside is they don’t open until 10 and not open on the weekends.

No I was serious I love Taco Bell's breakfast burrito. I usually don't eat breakfast so never get to an actual sit down breakfast restaurant, but when I'm on the road driving I always make time for Taco Bell breakfast burrito or Casey's breakfast pizza
