Best Breakfast in Central Iowa

I frequent the St. Louis area and there is a diner called Spencer’s Grill. Best hash browns I’ve had. They put like a 1/4 stick of butter on each order and the outside is crunchy. They have biscuits and gravy, an omelette called the slider and one called the slammer with chili. They also do a great chicken and waffles but don’t offer it all the time. True diner where you can sit at the counter and the cook is 5’ foot in front of you. Great place!

I like the Great Harvest Bakery and Café in Ames too. I have only had their breakfast sandwiches and a cinnamon roll, but they were both very good.

No I was serious I love Taco Bell's breakfast burrito. I usually don't eat breakfast so never get to an actual sit down breakfast restaurant, but when I'm on the road driving I always make time for Taco Bell breakfast burrito or Casey's breakfast pizza

I do the same while traveling. The Taco Bell breakfast crunchwrap is surprisingly great.

Railroad Bill's is an underrated place I never hear people talk about. Good stuff
Yeah its a cool place. It's not in the middle of nowhere per se, just a spot I don't drive by unless I'm leaving the EV.

Definitely worth a visit though.

LaMie on 42nd Street is pretty good. Best bacon that I've found at any restaurant.

Even though this post is from 2021, for anyone still hunting the best breakfast in Central Iowa, a few spots are worth checking out: Fong’s Pizza in Des Moines for a quirky twist, La Mie Bakery in West Des Moines for pastries and coffee, and Hearth Coffee House & Pub in Ames for classic brunch favorites.
And if you ever find yourself in Perth, missmiperth.com.au
is a must-visit for breakfast or brunch—their dishes are fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.

Simple, but I do like the Ankeny Cafe. Great diner breakfast. Just the basics but have never been disappointed.

What was that one breakfast spot on Lincoln Way across from Lake Laverne that closed down around 2012? It was like either next door or one more down from the old Theatre, maybe the shisha bar was next to it too before that moved to Welch.

I wish that place lasted my entire time, was pretty good if I remember.

Angie’s? Used to crush that place at bar close 15 years ago.

Eggs and Jam. No contest.

Barntown has killer brunch on the weekends too.
