Bates Interested In Iowa

I didn't know that completing under 50% of your passes was considered good. So I would not consider him underrated as a passer.

He only had 24 attempts this season. I think he had more attempts than that during the spring game. Juice Williams completed only 40% of his passes his freshman season. Last season he increased it to around 57%, and Illinois went to a BCS bowl.

I'm ready to move on, but don't fool yourself. He will be sorely missed by our coaches. He was our most effective QB in the red zone.

i just spoke with a friend who knows a friend that is a friend of another friend that has a class with a friend that knows bates, hes not going to iowa

Not me. I think Bates would have been the best running QB ISU ever had (best combination of strength and speed) and he's also underrated as a passer. I definitely don't want to see him stick it to us later ala Adam Haluska.

Dude! Did you start follwoing the clones when Chizik came to town? Best Running QB ever?

Hello someone que up THE RUN.

umm....Bates will never be Juice Williams/Seneca Wallace.

I am sure Iowa State offered him a conditional release. It is pretty standard when a player is released, it is conditional that they do not transfer to a team on our schedule through the end of said player's scholarship. I also don't see him going to SDSU, NDSU, Army, Utah, UConn, and other non-conference schools coming up the next few years.

He was not our most effective red zone QB. He could have been if he ran the ball hard, but he just tip toes and tries not to get hit. AA is much more effective in the red zone because he puts his head down and uses his size.

Secondly, Bates is a sophomore, not a freshman, so comparing him to Juice as a freshman is invalid. What was Arnauds completion percentage on his first 24 throws this season? 70%+?

GT does seem like a good fit and he would be far enough away from his dad.

Two quick things...

First - PB does not fit the football players that Iowa likes (convicts)

Second - PB would sit out 2009, and be ready to compete for 2010 - guess what, he will be behind Rick (Bobbi) Stanzi would be a junior in 2009, and a senior in 2010 - so, Bates would be competing against a senior (not going to win that battle) and then be ready to possible start as a senior, don't forget that John Weinke the NEXT BIG THING at iowa to start as a senior.

There's no way Bates transfers to Iowa - NO WAY, he just threw that out there to add fuel to the fire........its working!!!!!!!

Have you ever heard of Seneca Wallace? Bates couldn't even win the job. That is a lot of what ifs.

Bates had 166 rushing yards over 2 and 1/2 games. Seneca had 837 yards over 26 games. Do the math.

I loved watching Seneca run with the ball, but he couldn't run through people like Bates can. Like I said, I'm ready to move on. I just get a kick out of people on here who try to say X isn't a good player because he's leaving. I remember similar things were said about Adam Haluska when he left (on a different message board).

I do NOT recall anyone saying Bates wasn't good.

I do recall many and most saying Bates isn't as good as HE thinks he is at QB.

-keep.

PB has the potential to be a good player. I don't think anyone is denying that.

I don't think he has the potential to be a better QB than Wallace. Seneca made stuff happen just about every game. PB, although playing sparingly, did not. Except in the iowa game and that was at WR.

I never get tired of seeing that! As spectacular as the run is, the Michael Wagner block is what makes it so entertaining for me.

Gotta love Wags reaction on the sideline after he watched it on the video board  I remember standing up top, right on the 50 and everyone just going NUTS.

Gene said in his press conference yesterday that he could go to any school that he wanted to go to

I remember my emotions/words being something like.

"throw it away, throw it away, damnit throw it... uh, oh, go, go, ehh, look ou.. HOLY ****! (hit), go, go WOW!"

Gambit of emotions on that one play.
