Basketball Blog: Thinking beyond 2010

My guess...Oliver is transferring OR ISU will get a waiver for the NCAA for an extra scholarship...Either way, I expect his scholarship open.

Wow. I wasn't that sold on the Big 12 being a "guard league" as much as the Big 10 was last year until I just looked back at the stats: ISU and Texas Tech were the only schools whose PPG leader was not a guard, and on top of that ISU was the only Big 12 school to not have a Guard place 1st or 2nd on their team in PPG.

what do you mean by a waiver for an extra scholarship? we have 3 open, so I guess I don't understand what you mean.

Not to be a spoil sport here, but until it doesn't happen, I think any predictions of the future assuming that all of our current players are going to be on the team is just not valid at this point. I truly hope that Hoiberg can right the ship in this department but it's been a problem for the past three coaches, so until he proves he can, predicting the roster years (or year) in the future is just pure guess work.

It would be nice to get a couple of the guards in the 2012 class (Staten, Gesell & Paige) along with Adam Woodbury. Combine that with Uthoff and ISU should be setting up nicely for the future on home grown talent.

Paige is ok...though from what I saw of him...he was alot better as a freshman...though he did have better talent around him then...wasn't very aggressive..reminds me of a smaller DG in that he doesn't make alot of mistakes..though doesn't shine when he needs to.

Woodbury is all about upside...NEEDS to get more aggressive...playing against Ames DMcD schooled him in the post...and Woodbury has a 4 inch advantage on him...not good..he also needs to bulk up a bunch...He does have some good post moves but in college he'll need to refine them more.

Havent seen Gessell or Staten play...but from what I heard...talent wise it goes

1)Staten
2)Paige
3)Woodbury
4)Gessell

yes I know Woodbury is a PF/C while the rest are guards...but 3 and 4 could switch.

A waiver from the NCAA would make it 4...Total of 14. 13 is normal.

because of some illness? I guess what I am getting at is - why would we feel the need to petition for an extra scholarship when we have not (and likely will not) fill what we have?

Not going to talk about it on a public forum...Going to have to read between the lines...Yes, there is a reason to apply for a waiver.

When did you see Paige play? Keep in mind that he was only a sophomore and he had mono late in the year. Woodbury is just a pup and needs to develop physically.

If he cannot play in the future due to a medical issue, ISU will probably honor the scholarship. Therefore a waiver will allow 14 actual scholarships although ISU will only have 13 players. This goes through the 2013-2014 season unless he transfers before that.

This...Thanks.
