I’ll never understand the fascination with the walking Cy. For one cardinals don’t walk, they hop. And the face looks just like the Louisville Cardinal mascot.

Unfortunately, once we identify with the cardinal-like character, it tends to take over. I don't care about making Cy look like a real cardinal. I think of our mascot as being cardinal-colored, but not necessarily a cardinal bird. This allows me to care more about the cyclone-related features. The more Cy looks like a cardinal-colored animated cyclone, the better for me. And the extra features, such as fists and boots are fine, because Cy is a battling cyclone.

I will post this on the 'uniforms' thread, more appropriate there (not here). But since we are talking about logos, and the I-State primary...here is the simple 2 color I-STATE, and a 2 color redesigned (slightly) Cynado.
ISU Logos11 39 a Cardinal&Gold I-St & (139,4,44)Cynado.jpg
These two, along with our '80's "CYCLONES" script logo, should be our immediate 3 official logos. For fun, add in the Walking Cy in some form.

Is the tornado supposed to be turned slightly?

It's probably just a personal preference. It looks a little better to me, canted or turned more than the original, so that's what I did. Too much? And I 'fattened' it, if I remember correctly, just a bit.

Yeah I think maybe a tad too much but maybe that’s just my opinion!

While I generally like the 80's tornado, I have always an off notion about how I cannot tell which direction the tornado is supposed to be going. Like, it feels like a logo that is in motion, but which way? Left-to-right with the left being like a crashing wave, and the tail trailing behind? Or is it right-to-left with the right edge raised up and leading the rest of the logo?

I'm voting left to right

I concur.
Haha! From the tornados point of view, you are correct!

I guess that might be another reason why I tilted it more. To me, the tornado is moving right to left, as you are looking at it.

Funny, huh? How we perceive things differently. I guess it really doesn't matter. I know, from recently having our property struck by tornado, that it moves in any damn direction it wants to! :D

The time is getting closer for a re-vamp in our school colors (add a darker gold) and changing our secondary logos.

I'm hoping that if we come up with some good examples, illustrations, they will listen.
Navy blue with red piping make it's comeback.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Eee gad! Just our luck, they would probably listen to that.

Is this better, the one on the left? Thanks for pointing it out. I had too much cant or turn. Notice also that my adaptation, although similar, is quite a bit different than the 'ames' adatation on the right.

The nado on the right is obviously taken from @amestoplease adaptation, and I think was posted by @goldmember, some time ago. I'll include amestoplease adaptation here (below), which shows the original 1984 logo as well. Notice the '84 logo has more cant than the 'ames' adaptation. I think the extra cant is needed and what I was trying for.
