In larger vehicles it can be easier to get in an out that way. Plus you can see all the other world idiots as you are pulling out.
You are also more alert before you park than when you first are trying to leave so being able to see everything in front of you when you leave is easier than trying g to check all the angles. Or so my company says...

I have a company vehicle and we are supposed back in to all parking spots, its for safety. Was told its safer for two reasons.

1. You are most mentally 'awake' at the end of your drive vs the beginning. Mind is more focused on driving instead of others
2. When you back in, you've already seen possible pedestrians, etc. Essentially you are looking 'twice' at your surroundings.

Now I won't comment on how often I (and others) obey the rule..

100%. If I have just spent the last half hour herding my small children through a store, I am ready to get the **** home.

In Asia, most people back into parking spots. I only do it when needing to unload stuff.

There are too many people out there that won't yield to a car backing out of a spot. And if your line of sight is blocked by a van or truck, you end up getting honked at or birds thrown.

Situational for me, but if I know it's going to be crowded trying to get out, like going to a sporting event for example, I ALWAYS back in. Trying to back out of a space in a crowded parking lot is a ******* nightmare. Otherwise I usually don't bother.

What is up with people that feel they HAVE to always back into parking spots? Any of you out there that can explain this? I have nothing against it, just find it odd and interesting.

I will say... I will try to find spots in parking lots where I can just "pull through" the spot and into the the spot opposite of it because it does make it easier to leave... but that doesn't require backing up into it.

We have neighbors on our street that ALWAYS back their vehicles up into their garage even. Have never seen them just pull in normally.
I back my truck into my garage as I have to due to the space in the garage and how the steps into the house would hit my front bumper if I would go in. Parking spaces- I’ll pull through if it’s available however if I back into a space, it’s much easier to drive out of when I’m leaving.

I don't mind people who back in, however the people who back in while someone is driving behind them and still back in, making that person wait, are the worst.
Crowded parking lot and a line of cars waiting for this crap. More spots would open with people waiting for your back in but there is a line of cars blocking them so it doesn’t really matter how they parked, they are waiting for backup dude.

Backing in is ridiculous.

It's not safer. People can be anywhere in a parking lot. And you make me wait for you while you bumble **** around trying to back in between two vehicles.

Pull in. Back out. Leave.
That 10-15 seconds you lost waiting for someone to back in could have been spent here posting more bad takes.

I drive an Explorer so I like to back in at certain places. It's mainly at places that only have one row of parking. I don't care if anyone is behind me.
