Audi Crooks to Transfer

This smells somewhat like the Prohm situation except worse because the season was going well until Addy went down and the implosion took place. After Prohm got fired how many on the roster left? I don't remember what Otz had on hand when he took over.
Tre Jackson, George Conditt, and Rasir Bolton.

The latter TJ ran off Bolton (he averaged >10ppg over two seasons at Gonzaga).

What Otzelberger has accomplished in his five seasons at ISU is simply astounding.

I spent my entire youth wanting to attend Iowa State for my education. I have spent my entire adult life benefitting from that education, and, in turn, wanting nothing but the best for the university and its athletic teams. I have stuck with the athletic department through highs and lows (mostly lows--I am that old), and there is nothing better than experiencing a basketball game at Hilton

That being said, it sure has been a tough few months with the change in football, the general disappointment (with an injury) of the MBB NCAA tournament, the maddening collapse of WBB after the start of the conference season, and now all the WBB transfers.

It does make it hard to maintain positivity associated with Cyclone Athletics when everyone seems to want to leave. I always thought Audi simply always wanted to be a Cyclone. Of course she has to find her own path, but as a life-long Cyclone, this one really hurts.

I mean this sincerely, this was probably a gut wrenching and extremely difficult decision to make for several of them.

Instead of asking why everyone wants to leave, I think it’s better to ask why haven’t we given them a reason to stay? With the football program it’s easy, Campbell kind of went closed doors, no outside input, cult leader style and when Jim Jones drinks the kool aid things fall apart.

When the entire team leaves and the leadership is still in place, well yeah I have some serious questions.

First off…. Audi has to do what is best for her, so I wish her well. If she can get more money elsewhere, that’s what she should do. Good for her!

This is the system everyone wanted, players getting paid etc, so this is the result. JP has to do what he has to do as well then to keep the department afloat. So why invest in sports that don’t give you a return? He has every incentive in this new era to invest in football and MBB players…. that’s it. If football isn’t successful, then the whole department goes under. These are new times…. we can’t afford at ISU to pay Audi what she can get on the open market, and JP would be foolish to do so.

Of course they didn't. Some probably left because they didn't like the coaching, some for more money, some because they just wanted a change of scenery.

I'm not happy about the situation, but I also don't think it's fair to act like the whole team left because of the coach either.

If I had to guess, I think he and Jamie had a discussion and agreed that he would retire at the end of the contract. I think he's earned that at least.

I mean this sincerely I don’t care about whose fault it is. There is a difference between fault and responsibility.

What is happening with the program is Bill’s responsibility and by not retiring Bill is accepting the challenge for next year. It’s as simple as that.

You didn't even mention the absolute embarrassment with the end of our gymnastics program. This is not on the same level as the other issues you mentioned but still disappointing to hear about the lack of support for that program over a long period of time.
It’s hard to be embarrassed by the end of something that no one ever cared about…and you can argue otherwise, but I doubt they raised $50k in ticket sales or promotional revenue a year in the history of the program.

My initial thought (no inside knowledge) would be Minnesota. #4 seed in the tournament and still a short-ish drive for her family to see home games. They were 24-9 (13-5, 4th B1G) this past season and lose their 6'5 center.

Plus still within Fareway's marketing region. Not sure they'd want to support her wearing another jersey though.
This was my first thought as well. They play a slower, more methodical pace and their center just graduated and got a decent amount of post touches. The backup is a freshman and didn't play much.

Who recruited her out of HS other than ISU and Iowa? Wondering if there are relationships that would indicate where she might go.
Maryland and Minnesota did, at least. I would assume she knows Jennie B as well from her time at Drake. She might fit in very well at Minnesota.

WOW, comparing her to Fizer is brutally offensive to Marcus. Audi's skill set was to be larger than all the other players, catch the ball right at the basket and bounce it off the glass for two points or get fouled and maybe make a free throw. I struggle to type the world "skill" next to her name. Her size was the only thing that makes her special and everything else about her game was sub-par. She was brutally overrated and I'm much more bothered about losing truly "skilled" players like Addy and Jada, sigh.
I think Big Vic is a better comparison except Alexander had great hands meaning he worked to get position for the feed, Crooks tended to just stand with one hand up in the air putting all the responsibility on the passer to be perfect.

1- I absolutely HATE that she is leaving, but don't blame her.
2- I can't bring myself to watch the Pollard video. Might just skip it. It's platitudes, right?
3- Any chance Addy or Jada come back now?
No, I think Addy and Audi got along pretty well. I think beyond just money I think Addy felt like the staff wasn't doing her any favors. Plus, with her injury it was rumored that there was outside influence on her return timeline.

I'm not asking to be a **** but I'm genuinely curious which other programs have lost as many players as us including 2 all-timers like Audi and Addy.
Okie St and Tennessee are two, I am sure research could find more. Arizona, Indiana, Iiwa all have 5 or more leaving. We are not isolated in this.
