Gosh I didn’t realize all we had to do was pay Matt and the rest of the coaching staff another $3-4m and they would start coaching and recruiting at a 100% level. Thank you for opening our eyes to the sandbagging that has been going on - I appreciate it.
I think paying a person on par with what they have achieved in an important aspect of retaining talented individuals both from the coaching staff and players in the NIL era. We will have gone to a bowl game in 7 of the last 8 years under Matt Campbell. You know how many schools are better than that....Georgia, Alabama, Wisconsin, Clemson, Ohio State and Memphis. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UCF and Kentucky are likely to fall off that last this year as they have made 7 in a row but will likely miss this year. So there are 6 programs in FBS football that have been to a bowl game in all 8 of the last 8 years.

We pay our staff less than Purdue, Texas Tech, Virginia, Houston, California, Wake Forest, Kansas State, Maryland, NC State and the list goes on and on. Of P4 schools we outspend 9 of them (60/69 including Notre Dame) and yet we have people that are complaining when the squad is 8-2. I appreciate that fanbases have "fatigue" even when their coach is great. But in the last 8 years, Campbell is averaging 7.25 wins and we still have at least 3 games left in this season. Given the financial support we should probably be averaging between 4.5 and 5.0 wins a season.

We have a low-tier athletic budget and NIL budget, we should expect low-tier results, simple as that. The last 8 years we’ve had mid-high tier results. Just imagine if we had mid-tier fan financial support?

I could tell by the game thread on Saturday that you are definitely loyal son forever true. You must have been pretty pissed after the win on Saturday that you couldn't spent your Sunday ******** about our football program. At least Gunner recycled this thread so you have that going for you.

I do not want Campbell fired for the record (once again).

There appears to be 2 groups of people in this thread. Those who think our putrid football history predetermines the cap on our expectations, and those who don't.

I don't think our history should guide our expectations, and I suspect the coaching staff would be with me too.

The goal this year was the CCG and CFP, anything short of that is a failure. What happened under Walden in the 80's has no impact on this.
I think you and others want to paint this as a two group conversation but that's not the case at all. Understanding that 7-5 isn't the ceiling is the "putrid football history" group. Understanding that 7-8 wins is the average is the realist group and then people believing that anything short of the College Football playoff is your group. We were projected to finish 6th out of 16 teams in the preseason Big 12 poll. I don't understand how that projection in college football playoff or bust.

Might want to check your facts on that one. This thread had been dead for nine months until people dredged it up in the middle of the winning streak to gloat.

Paying player significant NIL money in this league is not going to pay dividends. This program’s culture is not built on paying hired guns. We both know that - and if somebody is only looking for the biggest payday then they should probably head out.

Retaining players is still important. Imagine the complaints from your ilk if we can't retain our top players.

100% agree. But these guys aren’t going to stay at isu making peanuts if another team comes calling with a good offer. We need cash to keep our guys. Do you think we’d have a better team if we had a $0.00 bankroll or a $10M bankroll?

Cyclone fans love to prove people wrong. It’s unfortunate that we have to prove our own wrong, but it’s 100% fine with me. Go to a hok site if you wanna talk down on an 8-2 isu team

It is an idiotic thread. We were a rotten program before Campbell. It’s getting continually better.

IMO there are plenty of dumb arguments on both sides of this, but I'm not wading into that. I was simply pointing out that it was the gloaters who revived this thread, not the "rotters."

Rotters are choosing to jump right back in with their stupidity. Don’t both sides this. WHO started this thread?

The goal by who and when?

We were picked 6th. I’m not sure why fans should have these goals.
