Has the rot started to creep in?

If you think that this group of “fans” won’t turn on T.J. the minute that adversity hits you are sorely mistaken.
Over/under 4 months until one of these losers makes TJ his own rot thread after losing to a middle of the pack B12 team on a snoozy Saturday afternoon

That “fan” will wear that thread like a badge of honor as well. Pathetic.

I get wanting higher expectations. And I do think to some degree, having a raised bar is fair in year 9 with an easier on paper, at least, Big 12.

That being said, if you're thinking we're going to start every year 7-0... well, that's a bit too far. Can we be in the top half of the league every year and get pissed if we're not? Yes. Should we expect to be in November every year with a chance to play for the title game or at least not have the season be over?

I think that's fair.

But the idea that every year its title or bust, no, we are not that program and might not ever be. We are a program that honestly if we go 8-4 or occasionally better 80% of the time... that's probably our ceiling

That’s the ceiling for most programs.

I am hopeful with some increased money and keeping our staff together, we can be a top Big 12 program.

I agree. Wild to me that some fans want us to stop giving money and fire the staff. Wonder where that will get us

Do we get to raise expectations on donations as well? We have an NIL that is in the middle of the conference. A head fb coach and men’s basketball coach that are paid in the lower half of the conference and yet we expect a top 2-3 finish in both. There appears to be a bit of disconnect from my standpoint.
Not expecting it every year, but in a year where we avoid playing the top 3 teams in the conference and return 95% of starters, you’d like to think we get further than just playing in the pop tarts bowl.

Plenty of people discredited him for making NCAA tournaments fresh off the bottoming out of the program so this is pretty spot on imo.

I think ISU bb will be good but will have a bumpier season than many think and this place will be wild over the next 2-3 months.
Sure, the basketball team will lose games, but it’s easy to acknowledge it’s a far tougher field than the football team plays with. The coaching in our basketball program is at a much higher level.

Can someone fill me in on what has to go wrong in your life that you’re looking at this year thru a negative lens? Best start in school history, we have our winningest coach in history under the helm.

Who hurt you? Are there any areas in life you find enjoyment from? I’m having a great time this year

The reason why TJ and basketball is different because there is no one that can say he doesn’t do everything he can to win and his goal is to get to the Final Four.

Look at football, “oh it was so bad in 1993! You guys are dumb!”. As if the college sports world spins at the same rate as it did in the past

Weird post. Not sure why you think college football is a tie in to someone’s quality of life.

It’s not hard to acknowledge we haven’t been playing good football at all for weeks. Bad performance vs a bad UCF and eeked a win. Then we followed up the bad performance with 2 bad ones in a loss vs Tech and Kansas. Didn’t even play well Saturday and were fortunate to beat a bad Cincinnati. We’ve seen far better football than this under Campbell.

And much, much worse football before we got Campbell. For decades.

We have the 8-10th highest NIL out of the 16 teams. We pay our head coach the 10th highest salary out of 16 schools in the Big 12. At some point this is an expectation issue from a fanbase unwilling or unable to properly provide the financial support necessary for a Top 30 fb program

Eh, this years team is on par with a McCarney team. You just see it different cause OMG 8-2! 8-2! We would be seeing the same thing if this years team got slapped with the back half of the 2002 schedule.
“You are what your record says you are”. - Coach Bill Parcells

While I won’t concede this team is on par with “a” McCarney team, even if true…so what?

They are 8-2. If they lose out, hey, still one of the better Cyclone seasons. But..if they win two more? Or better still, get a lucky break or two and win a conference title?

I’m using for the people that seem to lack any context to why we are 8-2 like we’ve been playing the best football in program history. I’ve even mentioned we saw far better level of football played earlier in Campbells tenure. His 2017 team would have ran through the past few weeks. I guess we can expect poor football to continue, but don’t get mad when people point out we aren’t that good.

So, just out of curiosity, what don't we do in football?

Expand and upgrade the stadium? Check.
Fired an OL coach and brought in a pretty respected in Clanton? Check.
Changed S&C coaches when it felt needed? IDK if I like the current one but again, check.
Improved the football support staff and facilities capabilities? Check.
Brought in a few transfers but not crazy but again, we don't have the $$$$$ to be super spenders in NIL / transfer. Check.

Now, I will say the argument that he's the winningest coach - while true - is a bit of a misnomer in the sense that we're not talking about 125 wins. We're talking 60. So, while its valid and true, that's also a lower bar based on our histoty. Not CMC's fault, but at the same time... its like he surpassed Nick Saban in terms of winning percentage.

But back to my overall point - IDK what else you think we should be doing? Seriously. We bring in players, keep the majority of our players, go to bowls, have players get drafted in the NFL, beat Texas/Oklahomas of the world, etc... yes, the record against Iowa is not great but other than that...

Do I love how conservative we play on offense? Not always, no. No I don't.

But at the same time... what are we NOT doing ? We're winning more, spending more, achieving more. That's a really weird argument.

Essentially it sounds like " well, he cut the crusts off the bread and I like crust" which is fine. That's your right. But the idea that we're not trying to win in football defies logic and reality. We've spent more and invested more and accomplished more.

Again, its fine to say because of that investment you expect more. That's OK. So long as you're realistic in that. Again, 8-9 wins in the current Big 12 should be doable most years. Which in theory, keeps you in the hunt till November. Occasionally better, occasionally worse. If CMC cared and asked my opinion, I'd maybe have a few suggestions but that's life.
