We lost to Texas Tech and Kansas. Almost lost to a mediocre UCF and Iowa, and don't play Texas, aTm, Nebraska, and Oklahoma anymore in conference. 7-2 ain't what it used to be......
This has a chance to be the worst ******* take of the year. Its college football. none of that changes. Is there more parity in the conference, sure, but in a climate where players are getting paid millions of dollars, and CMC/ISU is still recruiting well, and generally the team has been competitive, 7-2 is pretty damn incredible.

Question for you-if the guy who you want to replace CMC goes 7-2, are you still discrediting it?

Ima guess no....

How many times have we been 7-2? Ever wonder who rose the bar here so that 7-2 is now a disappointment in your eyes? If you’re JP, what do you do? Need specific names

I've said this before in other areas but I'll say it again, look how far we've come that we're complaining about being 7-2 in November.
Nobody wants to watch a train wreck. It'll be a great season to look back on thinking "what could've been", yet again.

The first 7 weeks sure were a fun ride, though.

We have really good chances of 7-2 starts in the coming years. We are as competitive as any other team in the conference. Sometime you have to get fortunate with injuries, the ball bouncing your way and calls on the field. ISU is just fine...make sure you have realistic expectations!

Amazing how people's expectations on the season changed because we were 7-0.

For the people mad about the last two games, preseason what did you expect ISU's record to be at this point? I think I had BEST CASE ISU at 7-2 (losses @WVU and @iowa).

I am bummed at how the last 2 games have gone but this team still has an opportunity to finish a top 3 season in school history. As much of a bummer losing out would be, it is still an above average season in the historical sense of ISU football. CMC is the greatest coach we have ever had. He will continue to give ISU great seasons every few years. This season still has the path to be a great season. Stay the course, celebrate the wins like crazy, move on from the losses 10 minutes after the game.

Having to build a team from scratch, which is what will most likely happen if you were to fire Campbell, would set this program back, probably forever.

He certainly isn’t getting fired after winning 7 games.

He would either have to leave on his own, or have 2-3 really bad years in a row for him to get fired.

I can’t believe this is even a talking point while ISU is sitting at 7-2 while playing like their 11th string linebacker and missing at least 3 other major contributing starters for most of last game.

Honestly what this staff had been able to do up until the last week or 2 is nothing short of incredible.
Set us back forever huh?

Weird how people don’t get this. Even in the Rhoads days like someone else mentioned, you had Baylor, Oklahoma State, and TCU who were in and out of the top 10 frequently and had to still play Texas and OU. We haven’t even played anyone this year who is in the top 25 or near it currently. This team would be 4-5 right now with some of the schedules 2011-2015.

In what world are you in where OU or Nebraska are currently scarier than KU or Tech?

Did you miss how ISU was finishing in the top half of the conference with UT and OU around?

When has ISU been 7-2 to make it a bad thing?

How do you know that? I’m not saying he needs to be fired right now, but a good coach would have no problem winning here.

Lightning in a bottle getting a coach like Campbell to stick around. ISU has been a stepping stone basically as far back as they have existed.

And you’re right, that’s why ISU is 7-2. Good coaches can win here.

It’s not like the Big 12 north was a world beater division, and Iowa State never sniffed 7–2 to start a season. They barely sniffed 7 wins ever. I’ll take this over that any day.

Current and future coaches don’t need to be excused because Dan McCarney failed in the late Big 12 north days. Those years were failures.

I guess I don’t know what you expect. 7-2 through 9 games is exceptional. Obviously there are flaws, but given the injuries this had to exceed anyone, except Cyclone Jerry’s, expectations.

Is it? We have yet to play anyone decent. We dodged the 2 best teams in the Big 12. 7-2 doesn’t even get us ranked. I’d hardly call that “exceptional”
