Its possible the employee that reported it wasn't 53 and that was someone completely unrelated.

My money is on DNA- she probably threw a straw away that police collected and tested. They did that to break a 40 year old cold case in Cedar Rapids a few years back.

They can do way more stuff with DNA than they could even 5 or 10 years ago. I'm assuming they retested some evidence and found her DNA. Who knows if they traced it to her through genetic geneology or not.

It’s really eerie to me to think she did it and went on about her life for 15 years like nothing happened. I also think it’s interesting she left her job after murdering Ashley.

I hope 5-0 or someone can at some point do a deep dive in to the steps that led up to the arrest. My guess is they found enough leads that led to a road of evidence to be able to arrest someone.
