If Jordyn Tyson can't play, that's a big win for us.
That’s a huge loss for them. He is a big time player. If he is out it makes it way easier to scheme for Scattaboo. Now we just have to tackle him…

Skattebo is the best RB in the country. You will not convince me otherwise with stats.

looking at his gamelog stats...

The only two bad games were Texas State an K State. He didn't have dominant numbers vs Cincy but he didn't get the carries. Tech held him in check running the ball but he had monster receiving game.

3 fumbles and only one lost.

Wyoming held him to under 50 yards also and TT kept him right at 60

From looking through stats, the cliff notes scouting report of ASU is:

Offense
They are really good at not turning it over. Scattebo is a really good back both running and catching. Leavitt is a good QB, but they don't throw it a ton. With Tyson out they should be pretty one dimensional , but Leavitt is good enough to hurt you if you lose coverage.

Defense
A step better than their offense. Second best run defense in the league. Their pass defense is closer to middle of the league. They don't get many sacks. They are good, but not elite at forcing turnovers. The best way to describe them is solid and physical.

Special Teams
They are poor in almost all phases. Kicking has been terrible all year. Punting isn't good. Punt return is the only bright spot.

Curious what others think. After the Iowa game I thought our FG's/PAT's were set for the next 4 years but after that miss Sat night and the bad miss against Tech (?? might have the wrong game) it's looking more like kicking as usual at ISU. Maybe he's wearing out being a rs freshman in his first season kicking or maybe it's the cold weather but I hope the game doesn't come down to needing a FG to win.
The snap on that missed 30 yarder was really bad. Because it was so high I’m guessing the snap was late getting down and the that’s why it was pushed right.

Long snapping has been a problem on FGs and XPs all year.

I see that ASU gives up a lot of yards on punt returns, and ISU has been very good at punt returns - we're at opposite ends of the normal distribution. That could be a key area where we steal yards next weekend. ASU is also good at returns, but our defense is quite a bit better. Not great nationally, but we give up a much smaller average return than they do.

Their red zone offense is poor. Ours is average.

In most other respects, our metrics are very similar. Some they're a little better, some we're a little better.

Skatebo isn't any better than other Big 12 backs we've faced this year. He's good, and we'll need to focus on him, but as long as we keep him from breaking any explosive plays I like our chances.

Where Skatebo is very good is for yards after contact. Reminds me somewhat of David Montgomery.

Did some perusing of ASU opinions.

Many seem very confident. They say we can't stop the run (valid-we are 15th in conf. Vs the run) and that we've played poorly the last 5 games, even though we've won them.

What outsiders see are the stats and some recent games that were ugly wins. Compare that to skateboo and ASUs stats.

What's missing is that we played a ton of teams that were heavy on the run and defense. Add in a couple not great weather games. The more I dig into this game the better I feel about it.

Teams generally don't just do what they want to do against Heacocks defense. They have to improvise and get to their 2nd or 3rd options. Kansas was the only exception this year and I'd argue that was mainly due to the injuries on defense.

My biggest concern is team speed. ASU looked FAST against Arizona. A lot of that was Tyson who is out now.

Giving Heacock that info seems to be a mistake.
Looks like Tyson got hurt when Arizona was up 35-7 late in the 3rd quarter. That's tough. I watched some of the first half, and Arizona couldn't stop him.

Would be really great if there was a bye week before the CCG’s.
Not sure about that. After our last bye week we didn’t get anyone back from injury, Verdon came out with a cast he didn’t have before the bye, and we committed almost more penalties than the previous 7 games combined.
