Archie Miller

Boy, I don't get the Archie hate. Personally, I think Indiana is a tough place to match expectations. It has a real Nebraska-like "we used to be relevant but none of these kids today were alive then" feel to it.

I'd have him near the top of my list. He's only a few years removed from being one of the most desirable coaches out there. I'd take him over taking a flier on a younger guy at a mid-major.

I think it's also best we come to grips with just how far Prohm has tanked this program. This isn't 2015 anymore. Anyone interested in this job has to know we are multiple years away from being competitive. I don't think there is a long line of successful coaches waiting to get a call from JP, but I sure hope I am wrong.

Could Archie Miller leave Indiana before he's pushed out? I'd take him. It'd be a similar move to other coaches who've moved on when things ran out of gas (similar to Tubby from Kentucky to Minnesota). Trent Condon just mentioned him on KXNO.

I'd rather take a coach that succeeded in a tough place than one that failed in a place with advantages.

It's a tough call with Indiana. I'm not sure how many "advantages" they've had there. It's just not the top-tier destination their fans think it is.

I think the flaw for so many of these guys that go to more historic programs is feeling the need to chase 5 stars. The State of Indiana has a ton of talent. If you just keep the bulk of the 3 and 4 star talent home you'll be pretty darn good.

Crean was much better than Miller. He at least took them to the tournament several time and I believe won the conference at least once.

Yea but I don't think Crean's bagmen got the return on investment they had hoped. He had a couple solid teams but never really won at the same level at which he recruited.

It’s not that he didn’t live up to outlandish IU expectations. He’s hasn’t lived up to many good program expectations.

He was overhyped coming out of Dayton. That’s a good program in a weaker conference where every coach since Purnell has had success.

Agreed. Archie seems like the guy who does better with his type of guys in his type of system. When you get a very different type of recruit and athlete, sometimes coaches struggle to change their style. We saw it with McDermott, Shaka (at first), etc.

I wouldn’t say home run but I’d be happy with him.

I think it's all a crap shoot. Sometimes the guy that failed learned something and ends up being successful. On the other hand you have guy that takes Wichita st to the final four and he can't win with longhorn money.
VCU, but yes.

Also, tournament play is generally weighted way too much. Getting hot or lucky in a narrow sample is a thing. There should be a Kevin Ollie heat-check parameter in every coaching search (and extension).
