AP poll released. Iowa State #23

I assume he was talking about this year. There are only three P5 conferences playing, not four. And if the SEC actually plays out their 10 game conference only schedule, might finally see their top teams take 2 losses.

But I agree with the sentiment that if there is a way to screw us, mark it down.

If Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Florida all finish with 2 losses to each other and ISU and OU each finishes with one loss, it will be Clemson, OU, and 2 SEC teams. No doubt.

Who is the Big 12 champ in your scenario? That would drive it a lot.

I'm not sure we will see any undefeated teams this year. It will be tough to keep a Big 12 champ with 1 or 2 loss out if all the other conferences best also have 1 or 2.

Natural attrition awaits, but the SEC will get its usual PR bump from ESPN.

SEC
#3 Alabama vs #4 Georgia - Oct. 17
#6 LSU vs #8 Florida - Oct. 17
#4 Georgia vs #8 Florida - Nov. 7
#3 Alabama vs #6 LSU - Nov. 14

ACC
#1 Clemson vs #10 Notre Dame - Nov. 7

Big 12
#5 Oklahoma vs #14 Texas - Oct. 10

It seems very weird to even have rankings this fall with so many teams not playing. A team can win the “national title“ and it really won’t mean anything.

It's not that much different to win it all. You still have to play your conference schedule, win the conference championship game (most likely against OU for us), and then beat two of Clemson/Bama/Georgia/Florida/LSU/ND/Auburn/A&M. That would be worthy of a national championship, and it will mean something to anyone who wins it. Ohio State is really the only team missing.

One thing that's interesting this season is that the SEC is playing 10 conference games instead of their usual 8. The playoff selection might've got more difficult with fewer teams.

Looks like a difficult schedule but how would you like to be Arkansas?

This takes me back to the thought of Missouri leaving for the SEC. They make more money each year by belonging to the SEC vs the Big 12 but their overall brand has to be dying slowly each year because they are so irrelevant compared to what they were in the Big 12. Do they regret it?

With that, why wouldn't Arkansas look to move to the Big 12? If they can become more relevant, their brand grows, eventually you'd think they'd be better off when accounting for increased enrollment, more donors, etc.

Missouri has been an absolute joke since going to the SEC.

The best part was how they didn't even consider what they were going to do for wrestling and sheepishly were asking the Big 12 to join as an associate member for wrestling after flipping the Big 12 the double Bookers on their way out the door.

They now wrestle in the MAC.

they did win the East two of the first three years

Actually, I'm glad their stint in the SEC has gone the way it has. At first, they were a Big 12 team playing in the SEC-- and they WON. (Take that, SEC) Now they can recede to the pit of misery-- and they have.

Was going to post the exact same thing. I would only add their experience was nearly identical to Nebraska leaving for the b1g.

I'd bet the CFP this year ends up: 2 SEC, 1 ACC, 1 B12. In fact, I'm not sure how it could be any other configuration.

The B12 is wide open this year, more so than any time I can remember in the past decade. OU is favored and rightly so but mostly based on history.

Missouri had a good run early in the SEC with B12 recruits. After they departed and with Gary Pinkle's retirement, they fell to bottom-feeder status. You can see that by the coach they hired. He may turn out fine, but I never heard of the guy before he landed in COMO.

I agree completely. The poll coming out with so many SEC teams in the top 15 (top 10 when you take out teams not playing) solidified it. There aren't any OOC games to speak of to change anything so when one of them loses it will just be a loss in the "killer SEC" so they won't drop much but the winning team will move up. The die has already been cast and not a single game has been played.

I guess, I could see them taking 3 one loss SEC teams before a one loss Big 12 champ - especially if that one loss team isn't from Norman or Austin.

The SEC has kinda earned that reputation. At least they will be playing 10 conference games this season instead of the usual 8. The CFP committee has rewarded a lack of losses more than anything. That gets a little more complicated this season.
