Pretty sure the dull blade comment is from the fact the grass has frayed ends and doesn't look cleanly cut. This is a normal thing for grass yo do. It has nothing to do with a dull blade.
(you paid Van Wall to service) doesn't mean they did... some dbag with a hawk hat on.. stickers on his yellow and black custom painted x500. I would have done the sameThanks all for the info, appreciate it. Dull blade thing is irritating because I had Van Wall service my mower last fall.
Not defending Van Wall, but did the service agreement include sharpening the blade or only cover engine/belts other mechanical parts and lubrication? Thanks all for the info, appreciate it. Dull blade thing is irritating because I had Van Wall service my mower last fall.
Pretty sure it included it but good question. Not defending Van Wall, but did the service agreement include sharpening the blade or only cover engine/belts other mechanical parts and lubrication?
I have two 54" deck 3 blade JD mowers and never intend on sharpened or new blades for the first mowing of the season. Our snowplow operator is notorious for flinging gravel into the mowed areas along with the snow and trying to get it all removed prior to mowing isn't always 100%. I also mow under 50+ trees in the back yard where picking up sticks doesn't always happen and many times anything less than 1/2 inch goes through the mower until I have time (or ambition) to clean it up better--a daunting task after high winds at times.
I have become quite proficient at sharpening my own blades when necessary and agree that "butterknife" sharp cut better for longer than "razor" sharp. For the amount/conditions I mow probably not many make blades last longer than here--but some of that may be attributed to the quality of JD OEM blades.
My yard is having its weirdest start to the summer in years, haven't changed anything but have random dead spots that I haven't had before. Not sure if that is common for everyone based on conditions this winter or if I got behind on something.

Me too. Lived here 15+ years and never had bare spots on the front like I do this year. Have spent the past few weekends tilling them up, mixing in some fresh top soil and seeding.
