Another "best" food contest

Sasquatch Jack's in Waverly is the best I've ever had and it isn't close. They were runner up a year or two ago.

St Olaf is super solid as well but the atmosphere in that place is weird, they aren't exactly welcoming to non-locals.

Staff turnover could have occurred as this info is several years old but I have intel that suggests that if you want food that is clean, Sasquatch Jacks is not the place to go. Like at all.

I also want to get over to Darrell's in Hamlin to try the 2003 (I think the first) winner. I went right past it on my way to VS as I was coming back from Ames
I've heard great things about Darrell's too. The crowd would single-handedly repopulate that town. I have yet to make it there as well.

One co-owner bought out the rest of the ownership team and runs it solo. Much, much better as he actually knows what he's doing in the restaurant world rather than just wanting to play restaurant.

I went to the best burger winner from a few years ago in Ossian(Bambinos). The owner and his wife said they regretted doing it and wouldn't enter again simply because it drove business to a level they couldn't handle on their own. I can see smaller restaurants having this issue in Iowa.

I would imagine it's just a short term boost in sales

I’m not really a local and have never felt that way.

Reno's in Schley should get in here, but they might not qualify for regular hours. They're open in every month of the year, but not necessarily scheduled hours.

EDIT: just nominated them

Lived in Iowa my entire life, and just now found out this town existed.

I just Google Map'd my way through there ... saw no restaurant signs. Is it the little building across from "Schley Cheese?"

If you’re looking on Google, go a mile north of town to the grain elevator and it’s a half mile west on the gravel. It started as a farm shed with a mobile smoker set up outside, and they’re building a new building currently.

Got it. Looks like it's actually a Cresco address.

17450 130 th st Cresco

Sadly, no Google Maps vehicle has gone down that road.

Thanks for the info! If we head that way, might check it out.

Follow them on Facebook. They don’t maintain regular hours but are really good about posting when they’re open.

What is the premier toppings/condiments for a tenderloin? Pickle, onion, and mustard right?
A past winner Larsens Pub in Elk Serves them one way. Don't even ask for anything else. This is an older menu. Onion and Pickles, add your own mustard.1665235132943.png1665235165957.jpeg

The Gridiron in Webster City and the Blue Moon in Prairieburg are very good. The one in Ogden is right behind.
