We went for dinner maybe a week ago or a little more, it was super busy but we had no issues with speed at all. My only complaint was the building seemed cramped, too many tables in not enough space. If you can get served. Tried to go there for lunch today, and there's some kind of breakdown in the process. Tons of servers just standing around, but zero food coming out of the kitchen. We waited for an hour to get our food, and it never did come. They just kept saying "just a few more minutes." We finally told them to cancel the order, and left. And we weren't the only ones. Everybody there was waiting forever for their food. I realize they're still new, so they might be experiencing some growing pains, which is why I'm not ready to throw in the towel on them, but if the OP is looking for a place to go this weekend, Boulder may not be the best experience. Not unless they get the kinks worked out quickly.
like I said, I'm willing to give them a pass because they're still pretty newly opened, but it was pretty terrible service, today. And it didn't help that all of the servers were just hanging around at the bar chatting with each other. I realize it's not their job to cook, and if the kitchen is slow, there's not much they can do about it, but it's not a good look for all of the servers to cluster together chatting while the patrons wait for their food. At least make it look like you're busy.We went for dinner maybe a week ago or a little more, it was super busy but we had no issues with speed at all. Personally, I was never very impressed with Jack Stack. Now Gates on the other hand...
Eating in Ames is all about the size of your group, how big of a food snob you are and how long you want to wait. If there is 2-6 people, I'd say Great Plains. Any more and you'll never get a seats. Outside of that, I'd say Hickory Park or Jethros. I don't get the comment about BBQ...neither one of those places are BBQ. Sure, they have smoked meats, but no one goes to Hickory Park for their ribs or brisket.
Other than those three, the pub grub kind of place would work... Dublin Bay, West Town Pub, Wallabys. All are pretty good. And then if you are a little more food snobby, The Café and Aunt Maudes.
I assumed he meant KC and his location is Olathe, so...probably KC.
He for damn sure doesnt mean Texas. BBQ here sucks. Texans wont tell you that but they dont know any better. They dont know about things outside of Texas.

Are you f'n kidding me?!?! Texas style BBQ is the best. Never had anything good in Dallas, but down in Austin are some great places. All about the meat, none of the sauce crap.
Thank you for all the responses. He will be with his 10 year old daughter and on the road so they
will probably want casual and cheap. Yes we are in Olathe and about 3 minutes from Joe's KC, 10 minutes
to Q39, my favorite, and 15 minutes from Jack Stack.
No I'm not f'ing kidding you. It is all about the meat and the meat here is trash. Texas beef is complete crap. And don't get me started on pork ribs down here. Ive had plenty outside of Dallas including Austin and my opinion remains. Its cooked a little better in Austin but the meat quality is still poor. Sauce or no sauce is a preference but good meat is good meat and give me midwest beef/pork any day.Are you f'n kidding me?!?! Texas style BBQ is the best. Plus this is pretty much my bible. My own bbq is the best.

Most definitely. Personally I like The Salt Lick (amazing brisket). Not the one in the airport, but the one out on the vineyard.

Mucky Duck does have good Fish & Chips. Will have to try this out. We've been looking for a good fish and chips place since we left Omaha years ago.
Brick City Grill, West Street Deli, Dublin Bay, Aunt Maud's, The Cafe, Sips.

My oldest daughter loved El Azteca at that age (still loves it but it gets vetoed by the pickier child). Fast and reasonable. Places like the The Cafe, Provisions, Plus 39 may be above what they are looking for in price. You can find menus for all of those online to check out. Wallaby's is nice but again a little spendier. If parking wasn't such an issue they could check out places on Lincoln Way like Jeff's Pizza, Blaze Pizza, Smokin Oak pizza, Potbelly Subs, Fuzzy's Tacos. The one place my picky 10yr old did like was Vesuvius pizza, but rumors are it closed. If they want to try Great Plains it works best to call ahead if you want to avoid a long wait. Great Plains is still a family favorite of ours.

Where did you get good Fish & Chips in Omaha? Please don't say Fox & Hound
Please don't say Teca ever again.Speaking of mexican places, an alternative to Teca is Los Altos, which is where Cafe Shi/Oddfellows used to be. It's on par with Teca for food quality, but has a slightly different menu. They've actually got some really good egg dishes, huevos rancheros, mexican omelets, mexican hash, etc. I wouldn't say it's better or worse than Teca, just a little different. Worth a try if you're in the mood for Mexican.
what? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over my popped collar. Please don't say Teca ever again.
