She was probably trying to make conversation. I'd suggest a tougher skin if a middle aged hy-vee cashier can get to you. If you belittle ISU, Ames, our fans, I get it. That pisses me off. But dumb rivalry ribbing is normal.
Yeah, a segment of hawk fans literally can't help themselves. They will belittle Cyclone fans any chance they get. They'll retain their superiority complex their entire lives. It was ingrained at a young age.

Kids are asleep, should I even try to get some Ames Lager in West Des Moines, or is everywhere sold out?
Seems to be sold out most places

Mills Civic and Jordan Creek Hyvees don’t even get it until Monday we’ve been told

Cracked one tonight to grill out. Good beer. Nothing special, sorta plain vanilla, but a good plain vanilla. Sorta like Bud Fat, but less foamy/filling and with a bit more flavor.

If you googled "just regular beer" this is what would come up.

Ames
Tasting notes:

My wife and I tasted the three beers. We both thought the Ames beer tasted fine and was a good substitute for Bud, Busch, Coors, etc. we both preferred CycloneFest to Ames. It was a little darker and smoother. My wife did not express a preference between CycloneFest and Legend, but I might have a slight preference for Legend, since I generally prefer ales.

I’ve now had all 3 of the ISU related beers. I’d rank them:
1. Ames Lager
2. Clonefest
3. Trice

Ames lager has a heavy bread/grain taste. Almost like cornflakes. There was some beer with Iowa in the name of which it reminds me. I didn’t care for that beer but the that taste in Ames Lager is not as prominent. I can see it growing on me and definitely crushable.

Testifying
Just cracked my Ames Lager.

Surprising part to me it wasn't very carbonated, pretty smooth. I get hints of vanilla. Easy to drink.

Guy that lives near Toppling Goliath and Pulpit Rock in here complaining about not having beer access the rest of us Iowans do.

I'm a southeast Iowa guy and the selection is awful. I'm driving across SE Iowa for a FB game tonight. Anyone out there seen a place with Ames Lager I can swing by?
Ok, I’ll quit whining

Maybe my opinion of how I rank them is because I just don't drink domestic beers anymore but I thought the Ames Lager wasn't anything special and just tasted like a better version of Budweiser or Coors Banquet. My ranking:

1. Clone Fest
2. Trice Legacy
3. Ames Lager

I'm looking forward to the Trice Hazy IPA coming out in a month, if could see that making 1 or 2 on my list if they do it right.
