I called HyVee Wine and Spirits on Mills Civic in West Des Moines, they said they sold all of their allotment (10 cases worth) and they'd have to wait until next week to order more.
You only have a problem if you quit. They are definitely different but I could also see Backpocket making them basically the same. Take the CloneFest festbier recipe, increase the grains by about 20% and add a little bit of Cara something malt and package them differently.
Does the fact that I'm somehow offended that we are the lighter version mean I have a drinking problem?
Hopefully corporate sees a dip in sales and gets on his case about it.
It just means you can drink more of them. They are definitely different but I could also see Backpocket making them basically the same. Take the CloneFest festbier recipe, increase the grains by about 20% and add a little bit of Cara something malt and package them differently.

Guy that lives near Toppling Goliath and Pulpit Rock in here complaining about not having beer access the rest of us Iowans do.This thread is a reminder that living in far northeast Iowa is like not even being in Iowa at all.
Which isn't always a bad thing, but it is in this case.
I’m not married to Busch Light. If Ames Lager is tasty (sounds like it is), I plan for it to be my new standard. Mix in a few Clonefest, Trice Ale, etc for variety.I'm wondering how the retailers are handling the flash instant demand? Do they increase their order significantly or do they keep the simple 10 case orders and go from there. How does West O handle it? Do they ramp up production only to see the flash go away and get stuck with it?
All very very intriguing. I know nothing about beer sales. Will Ames Lager demand stay or once we all get our 1 or 2 six packs will go back to old faithfulls?
Demand will obviously peak and then settle out. There will be high initial excitement coupled by hitting right at football season is going to make it hard to find.I'm wondering how the retailers are handling the flash instant demand? In typical Cyclone fan response this is on pace to be the top rated Lager on untappd once we hit the minimum number of rankings. I personally think even the best lager is capped in how high I actually rate it, but you can bet I'm giving this one a 5.Regardless if you tried it or not, give it a rating! This really helps the breweries especially if it would raise their overall rating.

Ames Lager - West O Beer - Untappd
Ames Lager by West O Beer is a Lager - American which has a rating of 3.7 out of 5, with 1,112 ratings and reviews on Untappd.untp.beer
I will only purchase Ames lager as a regular beer. I'll branch out with some varieties every now and then, but I plan on trying to make it 75% of my beer consumption
Guy should be fired for that attitude. Central Iowa is just as much, if not more, Cyclone territory than Hawkeye. The guy at Johnston HyVee is not my fave. I've gotten attitude from him before too when we asked about Cody Road. "We don't have it and aren't interested in getting it if it's Cyclone."
Anyone know if they have it Hy-Vee Prairie in Ankeny this morning? I konw they ran out yesterday and were supposed to get more.
She was probably trying to make conversation. I'd suggest a tougher skin if a middle aged hy-vee cashier can get to you. If you belittle ISU, Ames, our fans, I get it. That pisses me off. But dumb rivalry ribbing is normal.I'd be done shopping there.
Got attitude at a HyVee years ago from the cashier. Middle aged woman took an unprovoked shot at me for wearing an ISU shirt. Asked her when she graduated from Iowa. "Well my kid wrestles in hs so we really like Iowa" was the response. I just gave her a look and rolled my eyes. Wanted to go to the manager at the svc counter and say something, but just decided she wasn't worth the effort.
