Easy to replace? Bruce left ISU in great shape only to have it destroyed by Duncan, Criner, Walden, D'Mac was ok, Chizik, Rhoads. It's not a slam dunk next coach can keep it going especially when you consider there will be losses from this recruiting class and transfers out. Hopefully CMC stays and it's all Moot.
The 70s? Anything from the leather helmet days you feel is tangible to the situation as well?

That’s still a very small sample of coaches and replacement of coaches. Bruce left a roster in good shape, but Iowa St football was far less important, poor administration support, and parity in the sport much less. You recall NU stacking their rosters with how many players then?

Matt is good, but also overvalued here due **** that happened, or didn’t happen, before most were born. I remember some thinking the same way when Johnny was encouraged to retire.

That’s correct.
Let’s rephrase it then. Even a poor HC like Rhoads had only 3 less wins than Campbell after 4 years, and he had two transition classes working through the roster.

We’ll be fine whenever CMC is no longer HC at Iowa St. It’s been proven that several coaches can have success here, and they didn’t have as good of situation as whatever future coach will, whenever that is.

Rhoads had the benefit of 8 Conference Games and North South Divisions his first two years. Nebraska and Colorado left after 2010.

no one's mentioning that Campbell has really built a culture of "next man up" and that it definitely applies to the head coach as well...

whenever it is that he moves on to his next challenge, he'll have given people around ISU his recipe and leftovers... not to mention, I'm sure Pollard would take his thoughts into consideration for his successor.

do after year 4 now...
Why? Do MC Year 1 and Year 7!

Was Rhoads a good head coach? No. That’s largely the point. Even a bad HC that inherited a 2-10 team with two transition classes on the books, took 5 years before that derailed the program significantly away from CMC’s first 4 years.

Every program but KU in the Big 12 has proven in the last 20 years it can replace HCs and quickly regroup. It will only be more true in the Big 12 3.0

Good point I feel like Rhoads had about 15 good players total on both sides of the ball and if they weren't playing 100% of the snaps the next man in was a disaster.

Leftovers in this era? Any player can go transfer portal and play at a new school immediately.

The next hire would need to be a good one or it could be a rush to the door.

And he had the challenge of inheriting 2-10, two mske-shift classes etc. And the ultimate challenge that he wasn’t a good head coach. So?

Coaches, not players. And the right coach with similar ties to CMC would keep some of the players.

But keep being whatever it is you are.

No every school has not proven that.

KState is 1/2 post Snyder (thats assuming Kleiman is a success... TBD).
Texas Tech is 0/3 post Leach
Texas is 0/3 post Brown
Kansas is 0/5 post Mangino.
Not really sure how to judge WVU.

Baylor is only one that has had some decent success.

TCU, OU, and Okie State have had continuity.

ISU has never had a coach at Campbells level. Literally every other school in Big 12 that has hired replacements except for Baylor has failed.

Not exactly sure.
But, 'next time' may roll around again...and again which becomes a 'pattern' and will eventually have an adverse effect on recruiting. So, what I'm saying is swing the pendulum hard enough that people 'trust' you'll stay.
Always need to swing your pendulum hard.
