imo, Dabo would be an bad hire for OU for two reasons.

- Good chance Dabo would jump ship for Bama when that opens
- Venables has been Clemson's biggest strength anyways
I think people are valuing the OU job incorrectly. If you value it like OU in the Big 12 its a top 5 job. You are the king of the conference and will be in the playoff every other year, A down year is 10 wins.

In the SEC they are not king. Over the last 10 years one team has emerged in all but the Pac12(you could argue Oregon) that reigns supreme. Its Clemson, OSU, Alabama, OU. OU in the SEC is not your father's OU. Lincoln Riley knew that, and I suspect other coaches do as well.

Not sure if he would leave but Cristobal was born & raised in Miami and played for the Canes in their glory days. Also his mom still lives there has had health issues recently so maybe that would make him want him to come home.

I know he's from there but why on earth would he leave Oregon for that dumpster-fire at Miami?

It's not like Oregon doesn't have deep enough pockets to pay him...
Miami is supposedly adding like $20-30 million to its football budget so that should help some. Also you can recruit just Dade, Broward, & Palm county and have enough players to win big if you land those kids. And also it is home and that is important to some people.

He'd go because it's home and he's wanted that job for a while

I'd disagree to a point. I agree that Campbell's expression of faith would not be limited in the athletic department under Pollard but I recall the brouhaha the school administration gave the AD when Chizek wanted to hire a chaplain for the football program. Iirc, an openly avowed atheist religious studies professor (later to become department head, I think) campaigned successfully against the position and job title. The result was they ended up with "counselor" and restrictions on directions within the conversations that the counselor could initiate.

I don't know a lot about what's since then but I do know that when the football team comes on the field for a game they go beyond the bench where the coaches stop, then huddle for a player-led prayer before returning to the bench area.

Kevin Lykins was the "Chaplain" under Chizek, was a big mess at the time I remember. He is still continuing his FCA work in TX. Great dude, awesome with student athletes. He was popular with players and staff.

This is an excellent take. Not only that but the mass exodus of top level recruits and current players is going to really hurt OU for the next couple years. If they don’t make a home run hire that has a great season next year they will quickly be Arkansas in the SEC.

and then I suppose we’d be worried about the Oregon job. It would be nice if this cycle would end.

I would say Campbell isn’t an Oregon fit but then again he apparently talked to USC and I thought the same thing there. Oregon would let him wear black!

Notre Dame got their man, and I dont blame CMC for wanting to go there, not being able to incorporate his Faith fully into his coaching would be very frustrating.

There are few things I’d rather see in CFB (that don’t involve ISU) other than OU and Texas being irrelevant, mediocre, also-rans in the SEC. For decades.
