ABC 5: Hoiberg - Done Deal

The reason I don't like this hire is because we were supposedly contacted by guys who have taken teams to the NCAA tournament 8ish times.

I don't understand if you have a proven NCAA coach with that kind of experience why we hire a rookie head coach (albeit with Cyclone Legend status). BUT EIGHT NCAA appearances is only 5 less appearances than we have had in HISTORY!!!!

If Gary didn't come out and say we had been contacted by head coaches from other major universities and from guys how had gone to the dance that much I would be happy with this hires. But knowing we had candidates with that kind of resume I am very disappointed that we are taking what seems like a very very risky hire.

If you're against Hoiberg, you're against ISU. Step up and support JP and Hoiberg and ISU, or go back to your Hawkeye holes. It is ridiulous the idiots that are on here. Seriously. And so MANY idiots! It's not just the same few.

I can't even articulate how moronic and self-serving it is to post such drivel and such anger. I'll wager not one of those that are angry about this supports ISU athletics with their wallet, or is more than a couple of years out of high school or colllege. That's what should be so comical about it, but instead is just appalling.

If Hoiberg succeeds we have our men's BB team solidified for 25 years, unlike most all the other applicants. And the PO'd geniuses have NO clue who actually was interested, that's the best part. That's what interviews are for -something they will find out when they get to go out into the real world. Hoiberg was the best applicant based on his interview, not sure what's so hard to figure out. Either he had a fantastic interview, or the other applicants weren't as great as y'all thought.

Go Cyclones, I'm anxious to see what the next chapter brings.

Greg had been to the NCAA tournament three straight years. Now, he's been there three of the last seven. You just never know when hiring a head coach. Rhoads had never been a head coach, but he sure seems to be a natural. I think we'll feel the same about Fred as well...

Another thought; damn, things move quickly in the world of college sports these days. In a matter of just four days, Oregon hired Dana away from Creighton. CU hired McDermott from ISU. And then we hired the Mayor. Crazy.

and if he fails Mr. I have all the answers. I'm glad your old and wise, but to just speak in generalities about people posting on this board makes you as ignorant as those darn whipper snappers that are complaining.

Oh, so we'd only give him 4 years and JP was willing to give GMAC 5 even though the results and transfers got worse or the same every year?????

you're missing the point. Regardless of when it happens, think of the drama and BS we will have to go through.

Didn't think this would happen due to no experiance, but I will get behind this hire 100%. Sounds like TJ is staying per KXNO, and I would think Freddy will have an advisor by the name of Johnny Orr that he can go to at any time for advice. Also, if he's successful in the first couple of years, I bet Peter Jok WILL be a Cyclone over Roy boy...

Given the state of our basketball program, Pollard had to swing for the fences. This is a go big or go home kind of hire and I like it. Fred instantly provides a connection to the best days of Iowa State basketball and immediately ignites Hilton Magic again. I'm drinking the Kool-Aid on this one. On a side note, I feel old. I babysat for Fred Hoiberg in the early 80's. Yikes.

Alright lets go Freddie!

Crazy fact: JP has conducted two men's basketball coaching searches in 3 days total.

Unreal.

Almost have to assume GM was at the top of Creighton's AD's short list and Hoiberg was at the top of JP's.

Im ecstatic. Tear him to pieces if he is bad after this season. Not yet though, give him a chance.
