4h quarter field goal attempt

Just think if he would have went for it and missed we might have lost.

Much like the ground game, conservative so we don’t make mistakes saves us from embarrassment.

4th and 1 never should of kicked it.
It was the correct call. Put them within one score with a legit chance to tie and send it to overtime. If they fail on 4th and 1 game over. If they convert they still might have to settle for a field goal with less time on the clock.

FG was the correct call.

Yeah. If he would have went for it and missed, might have lost. Chicken ****.

The osu kick went over the post
Which OSU kick? The one in 2011? The OSU kick went over the upright and was ruled no good.

The rule specifically states the goal posts extend vertically. The entire ball must be inside the uprights.

No it wasn't. 4 & 1 from around the 20. They haven't stopped the sneak. Kicking the FG is settling for an attempt to go to overtime.

You can't play this game not to lose.

Lol, except they did fail on 4th and 1, but still had a chance to win. Your entire theory is bunk.

This. Plus the “I don’t trust the offense” argument is stupid. You were in the red zone for once and 4th and 1. If you don’t trust them to score the needed TD you surely shouldn’t expect them to turn around and score a TD later in a tougher situation.

And if it becomes a one score game Ohio plays completely differently than they did with a two score lead and 4 mins. To assume things otherwise play out the same isn’t correct.

I’m honestly curious on this one, regardless of yesterdays game. Can you find that specific rule? My google searches failed me.

I just saw the replay. The ref was clearly out of position. He's supposed to be lined up with from where the ball is kicked to see the line. He was at least 2 feet off this line. Were those B12 refs?

SECTION 4. Field Goal
How Scored ARTICLE 1.

  • a. A field goal shall be scored for the kicking team if a drop kick or place kick passes over the crossbar between the uprights of the receiving team’s goal before it touches a player of the kicking team or the ground. The kick shall be a scrimmage kick but may not be a free kick.
The posts extend vertically. Since the ball technically doesn’t go between the uprights when it is over the post, the kick is ruled no good

Is there a specific rule that addresses the ball going over the uprights? This seems like an interpretation, not a specific rule on the topic at hand.

I don’t care either way, I’ve just seen people claim both things…. That a ball going over the upright is automatically good, and some claiming a ball going over the upright is automatically a miss.

I suspect there is no specific rule, and that it is judgement of the official (who is in the best place to judge). Also why I think this is not subject to a booth review… it’s a moment in time judgement call by the person with the best view, with no camera’s able to definitely prove anything.

Pretty much every field goal I've ever seen that goes over the posts is ruled good. That one was actually more inside the posts than most.

Thing is, we're talking about an ISU team that couldn't rush for more than 11 yards vs a MAC team.

That's karma kicking Campbell in the nuts.

No - pretty much every field goal that goes over the post is no good. Hence why the OSU kick in 2011 was no good and the Independence Bowl kick in the early 2000’s was no good

The rule states it must be between the posts. Over the post is not between the post

The rule states the goals extend vertically. The rule states the ball must be between the posts. If a ball goes over the post, it didn’t go between the posts.

Also, unless the camera is directly under the upright, the posts will appear wider than they actually are. For example, draw a line from the top of the post in the same path as the post. You’ll notice the post isn’t a 90 degree angle to the bottom of the picture. It’s wider. So the picture will give the appearance the goal posts are wider than they actually are. The only view that can definitely show if the kick went over the post is if it was directly underneath the upright

FG looked good. Officials called zero penalties against Ohio. Lots of Offensive holding by Ohio was not flagged. Some really bad pulling on jerseys by Ohio not called. Where in the hell did the contaminated food that caused food poisoning come from?

Even so. Terrible game by Cyclones. Woefully inept.

The kick was good. ESPN slowed it down and showed it this morning. That being said, go for it on 4th and 1. Your defense was stellar all day.

I can’t 100% say the ball was completely inside the posts when the ball crossed the plane of the crossbar as we don’t have the proper angle.

But you’re right… at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. If the team can’t rush the ball vs Ohio, they won’t be able to create a reliable running game the rest of the season. That’s why they lost. Blaming a he officiating is Simon trying to put blame elsewhere
