"As we move forward together, the alignment on our campus with Dr. Cook, Jamie Pollard is amazing," Otzelberger said. "And we're thrilled about our future together. So, really appreciative and grateful to Jamie Pollard and David Cook and conversations we've had."He definitely didn’t say this. He said the quote that Hines posted. He said he’s appreciative for Pollard and Cook and thrilled about our future together.
Which is great, but he definitely didn’t say “I’m not interested in the UNC opening and am staying in Ames.”
Because maybe he wasn't even offered by UNC? Why comment on something that hasn't happened? He definitely didn’t say this. He said the quote that Hines posted. He said he’s appreciative for Pollard and Cook and thrilled about our future together.

He shot it down pretty well. Otz is a humble guy. He was quite clear he is looking forward to building the future at ISU. That's Otz's personality and humbleness coming throughHe definitely didn’t say this. He said the quote that Hines posted. He said he’s appreciative for Pollard and Cook and thrilled about our future together.

Yeah, I mean, precisely. That’s why I would take what he said at a surface level. I don’t take that statement as removing himself as a candidate. Do you?Because maybe he wasn't even offered by UNC? Why comment on something that hasn't happened?
I’ll also say, I would say this exact same thing in his shoes. I’m about to coach a Sweet 16 game and I’m happy at ISU. If UNC comes calling I’ll deal with it then.Yeah, I mean, precisely. That’s why I would take what he said at a surface level. I don’t take that statement as removing himself as a candidate. Do you?
It was more confirming than anything Campbell said in his 10 years in Ames when asked about the possibility of leaving.Yeah, I mean, precisely. That’s why I would take what he said at a surface level. I don’t take that statement as removing himself as a candidate. Do you?
Agree one hundred percent. This is always how I was hoping Campbell would kick off a press conference... But never once did like this.It was more confirming than anything Campbell said in his 10 years in Ames when asked about the possibility of leaving.
True that he hates it, but what a guy like that would hate even worse is misleading people who know and trust him personally. The guy doesn't just spout platitudes, integrity is ingrained in everything he does.Let's be honest. TJ probably HATES that his name is brought up but even moreso in the middle of a Sweet 16 run. The absolute last thing he wants is distractions. So, he put out a statement, which is smart on his part. Could he leave after the season? Sure. But RIGHT NOW the comments he made make a ton of sense as a PR person who drafts C-suite quotes and messages every day.
He doesn't. It's an obscene amount and ISU could get a great coach for less than half that.Campbell got $10 million, which JP didn’t have. If UNC offers TJ $10 million, where does JP get that kind of cash?
If you’re defining Top 10 best as having tradition, resources, expectations, no doubt. It’s as blue blood as it gets. But that’s not what every coach is after. I’m hoping Otz is our Izzo.I don’t think he leaves but UNC is 100% one of the top ten jobs in the country
Why can’t Iowa State be someone’s “dream job?” Wait, didn’t TJ say that exact thing? You guys are just setting yourselves up to be heartbroken.
Not saying he's leaving or anything but how many dozens of examples does it take to never, ever believe a college coach.
Every coach has his 'dream job' right until the the next one comes along...
Would be more nervous if TJ’s statement sounded like this
I think that is who I would hire if I were UNC!Stark difference. You’ll also notice he didn’t address it on his own; he waited to be asked about it. Otz’s opening statements addressed it head on before reported had a chance to ask
And Lloyd didn’t say a word about next season. He’s definitely interested in the job
