I think we can definitely see how TJ's strategy is played out. Identify some guys that will help your squad, get them here early and get done with this mess before **** gets even weirder than it already is.
A shame we went 0/2 on the top two, but Buchanan could be a nice contingency and hopefully they land a starter level guard that’s been overlooked by others

There's 0 chance it would happen but Terrance Arceneaux would be a perfect fit.

I think his plan got derailed by the stuff with Jefferson. Plan A was keep the core, add a big time transfer or two, we moved to plan B after they went elsewhere we had some other big targets on our list. We had to move to plan C when JJ asked for more money. Our staff has done a great job but the plan definitely changed a few times. This wasn't what TJ envisioned a month ago.

I guess i'm not understanding how we went from almost landing Rhode, to now not having any money for another player? Jefferson ask for a $1 Million raise?

I am guessing when giving Jefferson more money a couple of other guys named Tamin and Milan said "Hey what about us". Thus all the money is gone now. We got what we got.

Guys currently employed all got raises.

Better to keep and pay your good employees than try to bring a bunch of new ones and having to train them

I do think the staff is monitoring the portal but could be waiting for April 22 when the portal closes to actively contact potential guards. The staff will know for sure then that the core 4 are at ISU and won't need any increases to fend off other schools.
The musical chairs for starting SG spots and top end money will be spent in a week. There should be some available players looking to improve their pro stock on a top 10 team that ISU can sell at a lesser NIL.

I hope so, CW and Blum made it seem like we are done, which is concerning..

I think the lesson learned from the Tennessee debacle is moving forward we'll have players essentially holding the schools hostage for more money. Then when they get it there's no more funds left. So we're essentially stuck in a pattern where we either retain good players or they leave and we spend the money hoping to find a replacement.

Either way the system is broken beyond all control.

I think you are right. Could even wait until the 25th when the football portal closes. Reading the tea leaves there some concerns with what went on with Nico "I am a leavin" at Tennessee could have downstream effects across all of football. Chris alluded to this on Two Guys.

Brent has stated that most WeWill givers don't designate specific sports. So its up to Brent, TJ, Matt, and Bill (maybe Pollard?) to figure out how everything gets split. Scary to think about what happened with Jefferson could very well happen to the football team. We need to save some of the general NIL fund until the dust settles and see where we can be strategic. Hate to promise money for a SG while our entire D Line leaves for the portal. It's a tough situation to be in right now. Come April 26th I think we will see a lot more activity.

Were better. People always neglect to recognize the growth in players that allow them to take the next step and be the guy. I've seen that growth in Jefferson, Lipsey and Momcilovic. That's a strong start.
No better example than Curtis Jones, went from being a role player who could provide a little offensive spark to an All Big 12 player in one year.

I think people need to get used to the fact that this is a culture and develop program. T.J. is not going to make the splashy signings, he's going to bring in guys that fit the culture and play strong defense then develop the offensive skills from within so we're going to likely see a few guys who were unheralded coming into the season become fixtures later in the season. It's worked pretty darn well under T.J. thus far so I think "Trust in T.J." is appropriate here.

Whatever additional JJ got, Milan and Tamin also got. If it was 500k, that ask cost you a starting guard at 1.5mil

I didn't take their comments as we are done. I took their comments that we are in pause mode because the Portal NIL market is at an all time high. They used a stock market analogy. Blum did say he is still out their trying to raise more money.

Sounds like we are going to be value investors anticipating a market correction.

It's interesting that we are all lamenting not getting a big time guy, yet I've seen us in most preseason Top 10s that are out. There is so much value in retaining your core. There are tons of examples of these teams that are patchworked together with transfers not finding their collective stride.
