Assuming the addition of Rohde we've added 4 white guys this offseason to go with one already in the starting lineup. Are we becoming Iowa?? Did Fran somehow leak into our program after he got canned?? The exciting whites are here! Kidding. Sort of...

Would be lying if I said I'm not just a little concerned about the defensive pressure successfully returning from 2-3 seasons ago. I'll wait to hopefully be pleasantly surprised. Although a lot of TJ's defensive scheme relies on being in the right position, and good anticipation. Hopefully with a lack of raw athleticism across the roster, they can excel in those areas.

shooting 34% on 4 3 attempts per game does not compare to Cujo shooting 36% on 8 3 attempts per game. Abdi Bashir Jr. from Monmouth would be my Cujo comparison.

Yeah I’m not saying it’s a one for one replacement. I was just saying that’s who he was compared to. I think someone used KenPom or another site that linked them together.

Recognizing that a lower half conference budget will tend to lead to mid-pack finishes isn’t being on the ledge. Get a grip.

Jones and Gilbert were great gets, but also 5th place last year. The staff has done an excellent job with the limited resources, but we’ll be more susceptible to “bad luck” causing issues in the game of attrition that is conference play

2023-24 was outstanding, but also likely an outlier in the new era

But sure, expect top-20 results every year on a top-40/top-50 budget

The team was never healthy last year, a healthy Cyclones team was looking like a strong Final 4 team early in the year then Milan got injured, Lipsey was banged up most of the conference season then Gilbert.

I'm late to this but Indiana having zero roster players left after the portal opening and due to graduation is freaking wild so it could always be worse guys, a lot worse.

Does Kansas have anyone left on their roster? Harris, Adams and Dickinson are all out of eligibility, and they've lost Coit, Griffen, Bidunga, Passmore and Clemence in the portal.

I guess they still have Zeke Mayo... and AJ Storr!

This part of College Athletics sucks.

Remember back in the day when Student-Athletes were happy getting a few dollars under the table and a Basket Weaving degree?

It does suck but these kids, who the schools have been generating obscene amounts of revenue off of, have been getting screwed for a long time.
Look at The Fab Five for instance and the millions the school made off their brand while they got nothing out of it, legally at least. This was a long time coming and now it's essentially a pro sport, sad for college bball purists but it was inevitable.

Really shooting for the stars there ha. We had not bad at home.

I think this is a fair take on how the conference shakes out next yr at this point with still a lot of unknowns.

Some combo of the following 1-4
1 Houston
2 Kansas (Self is not going to allow another down yr)
3 Tech
4 Arizona

That leaves ISU, BYU, and Baylor battling it out for 5th. Could be 5th could be 7th.

Lower expectations might honestly be healthier for next yrs team. The high hopes for this year’s team made the room for error razor thin. Once things started cracking it was tough to keep it together.

KU won't be 2nd. I'm confident of that.

Yup. Always be a team to get hot in February because they haven't taken the defensive beating that slows down the top teams due to attrition by that point of the season, but won't ever have the defense to get past the S16.

It’s weird that popularity of the sport isn’t plummeting. It for sure is for me. I followed less this year than ever before.

I also have to keep remembering that this staff is just going to face a huge disadvantage every year. Sweet 16 is probably this programs ceiling. Going to mostly be 1 and 2 seeds in elite 8 and final fours going forward.

I haven't watched a complete basketball game in months. I haven't watched a total of 100 minutes of the NCAA tournament. I honestly barely care any more. I gamble and check the scores in the morning. Seriously, guys tearing it up in the tournament, on a good team, may not even be on the same team next year. I just can't. I'm not mad...it just is what it is.

As far as offensive production - I think most would agree after the offseason additions that we are a net negative, maybe a wash on the optimistic side as the season goes on, and new guys settle in/step up. I saw a lot of people mentioning it towards the end of the season, but a lot of this is also dependent upon the coaching staff making improvements as well.

The halfcourt offense HAS to get better/more consistent. Not sure who on the staff heads that up, but it needs work(along with the late clock situations..). If they aren't turning teams over at a high rate to produce offense, things get very stagnant. Which is where the 3,4,5 min scoreless stretches creep in. It has been pretty refreshing to watch some of these teams still in the tournament run set plays to get buckets when needed. Too often our strategy seemed to be pass it around the 3 point line hoping something opens up, then chuck it.

Demin didn't like physical basketball but I think the rest of the team handled it pretty well. Saunders could take a bump. Hall was tough. Their bigs really grinded.

But yes, their defense is suspect.

Give him a year in a P5 weight room, I would guess that changes. As a shooting spark off the bench he would have a role.

Is this a troll?… Iowa State was a 2 seed two seasons ago and would’ve been one this season had it avoided one of four major injuries and illness

Almost as though the average age of the coaches in the Final Four is 52, and coaches learn and evolve over the course of their careers?… And declaring a ceiling on a program whose coach doesn’t even have a half decade of head-coaching experience at a P4 school under his belt is a bit premature?
