We were not the only good P5 teams in on the guys we’ve gotten/will get. It’s not like we’re picking up scraps here to field a team. I’d also bet that we will be higher than 6/7th in the Big 12.
Lots of guys have school “in on” them

It is undeniable we’re needing to find bargains as we have less to spend than most thinking they’re top-25. Plus the LSU types that are looking to buy their way up

Pretty safe to say BYU, Arizona, Houston, Baylor, KU, and Tech will spend more reloading. We’re the new midmajor class now that needs to compete while spending $2 to $5 million less than the top of the sport

Yeah I’d take a step back from the ledge. The guys we’ve gotten didn’t just have schools in on them, they had offers on the table. It’s also not about how great a roster is on paper it’s how it’s utilized. We’ve competed and will continue to compete in this era bc of TJ and how great he is at roster construction.

Would’ve loved to have seen your comments on Gilbert and Jones lol bc they were pretty similar to the guys we’ve gotten. They were not insanely high coming out of the portal.

Maybe I’m just wearing cardinals colored glasses, but I think we’re ok for next year. TJ may have to trust the freshmen though. I think with Buchanan, JJ, Pleta, and Mulder we’re ok at the 4/5. I think Pleta could be a key piece. Depending on the matchups I think he is athletic enough to play the 3, 4, or 5. Then both Batemon and Toure look talented enough to play significant minutes in the backcourt. Just because we were 1 for 4 on Milan, Omaha, JT, and Nojus doesn’t mean we’ll go 1 for 4 on the four top recruits next year. In fact we should go 3 for 4 to even up the percentages.

Do we stash some money for next years class knowing we have to replace Tamin, Jefferson and possibly another player or do we spend the Cluff money to go after a big fish

Blake isn’t more talented than, and they both have two years left. We missed. It happens

Purdue with Jacobsen, Cluff, and Kaufman-Renn will be considerably better than Jefferson and Buchanan

Plus Smith, Loyer, and Cox will be one of the top backcourts.

And it’s in West Lafayette
Yea this mini series with Purdue doesn’t seem as fun anymore lol

Let’s quit with the Jones stuff. He averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists the year before he came here. We got him because coach saw talent but it’s not like he was lacking for stats and most thought he would be a good player

Blake was a top 100 center prospect out of HS and a top 50 portal player. He’s started 22 games in the ACC so should be ready to start in the Big 12. He has talent to be a good center and we know it takes time for bigs to fully realize the potential.

Oscar is rated higher due his production at SDSU, rightfully so, but he did have to transfer down to get those numbers.

I mean he’ll start because we don’t have another option, but just because he produced 5 & 5 on a bad team in a down conference doesn’t mean he’ll be ready to be a difference maker on a team trying to compete for a top 5 finish in the Big 12. He’ll be serviceable like BRE was.

Hopefully Otz keeps him locked in the weight room. Only time to leave will be to go shoot free throws.

Mason Williams has solid stats and his actual player comp is Curtis Jones at Buffalo. Two guys who had solid averages at Virginia, so stats are not going to look as good. And then Mulder who actually had decent stats but great efficiency ratings.

People are upset because people expected to pick up guys as good as Keshon and Curtis when they left here. They’re then mad because Cluff chose Purdue over Iowa State and we got Buchanan, the guy who’s rated one spot behind Cluff.

Mulder won’t see the floor after the first few games unless there is an injury.

Hope the Williams kid can come in and get buckets. I’m worried about scoring since none of our transfers are big scorers except maybe Williams can be that

His numbers are actually fairly similar to quite a few of their good forwards that they had when they were young. Shedrick, Huff, Salt. Those guys were right around there and then progressed in their junior and senior seasons

5th in the conference again would be a good goal. Going to have a good returning core, but will need a lot more production from the new faces this yr. Specifically from the shooters if we aren’t going to get that boost in the post. Really banking on Batemon being an impact freshman.

Meaningful depth that can develop through the season will be the difference on if this team can reach that goal.

Rhode is a solid scorer. I think there’s something there with Williams. We’ve never brought in a big that’s a scorer so I’m not worried at all there.

One of our two freshman guards being solid would be a big jump for our ceiling.

What rankings show Buchanan one spot behind Cluff?

ESPN has Cluff at 22 and Buchanan not in the top 43. 247 has Cluff at 21 and Buchanan at 41.

It was positional rankings and I believed On3. I don’t think Buchanan is as good. I was just saying he is solid and coming from a Tony Bennett team and I like that a lot.

Lmao

Recognizing that a lower half conference budget will tend to lead to mid-pack finishes isn’t being on the ledge. Get a grip.

Jones and Gilbert were great gets, but also 5th place last year. The staff has done an excellent job with the limited resources, but we’ll be more susceptible to “bad luck” causing issues in the game of attrition that is conference play

2023-24 was outstanding, but also likely an outlier in the new era

But sure, expect top-20 results every year on a top-40/top-50 budget

Rewriting history and acting like injuries didn’t plague this year is fine if you want to play that game. We also literally ended the year top 15 so your last point goes out the window.
