***2025 ISU FB injury thread discussion***

Time to go over and watch some intramural soccer games to find some replacements.
Heck. Before intramurals, check out the men's soccer team. When I played for Iowa State (in soccer), we had a guy I know could boot the thing 70 yards and accurate enough to score a goal from mid field. He had a leg stronger than Uwe Von Shomann's whom we played in soccer (terrible in soccer, but very good field goal kicker for Oklahoma) back in the day. I know that dates me, but the fact remains some guys who play soccer can kick it a country mile.

My oldest plays soccer and I agree he can kick it an absurd distance.

We tried punting after 7th grade to see if he wanted to do school football and he was quite bad at it. It’s not exactly the same.

I believe it would have to be a non-scholarship soccer player, as well. I’m told that distance and accuracy tend to suffer when there are several large dudes charging you at full speed, also.

Not sure where you heard that from, but nailing an already moving ball 50 yards accurately, is far more difficult than a little intimidation.

Agreed. Not quite the same. Having won my local Punt, Pass & Kick in my youth, but choosing soccer, I can say 'punting' is, IMO, far more difficult thank place kicking.

He's my hope in regards to kicker. That we can get Konrardy back for the BYU game (6 weeks post AR St. game including bye weeks). That the coaches can be confident in Chase Smith's role, even if its limited. If he can make extra points and field goes inside 35 yards that's a lot better than having a temporary kicker who has good range, but every kick feels like a coin flip (or worse). If he won't make a kick consistently from whatever distance that's no problem and you can game plan around it.

Here’s my take on it.

Here’s what some of the worry warts are missing. Chase Smith was a QB abstract sprinter. The direct-snap-to-the-kicker fake FG is now in the playbook.

Also, your unnecessary reminder that CMC is fudging on soooo many injuries, even when he’s talking about having guys back.

Just one illustration, “hoping” K Jace Gilbert will be back before the end of the season.

There’s still a long list we’re waiting on, all the way down to Daniel Jackson, Deylin Hasert and Michael Parkes.
