2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

This was my assumption too. Crazy that he went back and sat down. I don't know how I feel about it lol. A leader recognizing his counterpart is having a game and says welp, I'ma walk back. Or, I want my alpha shooter to have that I need to take that last shot mentality. In the past, we'd want that alpha shooter like Shayok to take the last shot, but I guess we have multiple capable shooters, it's just hard to fathom.
A true leader recognizes what is needed for the team over his own ego. Those not liking this are still stuck in the neolithic age and false notion of an "alpha". Probably believe that the vapors are caused by a wandering uterus.

Milan has played for TJ for almost 3 years. He has heard how he encourages players to be aggessive offensively. He has heard how he encourages his teams to find the hot hand. He has seen how TJ substitutes when a player is having a good game offensively. Milan knew that keeping Batemon out there is what TJ was going to want.

I don't see any issue with it.

43-40 1st half.
27-27 2nd half.
Defensive intensity turned up.
only 58 possessions in the game - on a per possession basis it was a GREAT game offensively and a so-so game defensively (on both sides). Torviks adjusted Offense was in the upper 130s for both teams and adjusted Defense was around 100 for both teams.

Curiously, both teams had a game score of 97 - meaning that both teams lose that game to 3% of other teams (given the way they played) on any given night.

Next time somebody complains TJ doesn't know how to substitute...

He took Momcilovic and Toure off the court in crunch time against UH for Batemon and Heise.

Say that to most the fanbase and they're probably confused if not apopletic.

And it worked ******* beautifully.

TJ is far from perfect, but it also seems like he knows who needs to be out there in key moments.
I'm not sure where I read it - and I didn't see it live, but I read somewhere that Milan was ready to check-in when Batemon hit the first big 3 and then he went back to the bench on his own. Maybe TJ said that post game

Milan was ready to check in, Houston missed the free throw, Batemon nailed the three and TJ pulled him back to the bench,

It might not have come down to a late shot if we didn’t stop them on the other end. Heise and Batemon really did a nice job on their guards at the end

I'll admit I saw Batemon out there late in crunch time and had a "huh" moment.

Where's Milan? Your AA all-timer shooter in one of the biggest games of the year?

Or where's Toure? Supposedly the best on-ball defender we have even over Lipsey?

...then Batemon drills two threes and balls out on defense.

Way to go, kid.
TJ talked about that after the game Milan was at the scorers table waiting to check in Batemon drilled the 3 and Milan basically traded looks with TJ and said let him cook and went to the bench. That's a lot of confidence in your underclassman.

I watched the highlights of the end of the game again.

Milan is on the bench when Batemon makes the first three to go 58-63.

He's still on the bench when Pleta dunks a great feed from Lipsey to go 60-63.

He's still on the bench when Jefferson makes the hook to go 62-63.

He's sitting in front of the table when Batemon makes the second three to go 66-65.

Flemings actually makes a tough shot over Batemon on the next possession to go 66-67. Fran Fraschilla even goes out of his way to say it was good defense but just better offense.

Next possession (the Heise three) Milan is back on the bench.

I don't see him get up or walk over or interact with TJ directly, but, yeah, he went back.

Oh I'm liking it, just not something used to seeing. It just means it's much better for the next month of having some serious depth and other players to collectively make shots. It also means early growth for future years and the stability of this program. Bateman is going to be deadly. Pleta even through a couple games I've seen growth and confidence. More to be excited about for sure!

On the alpha conversation, one of the things that made Michael Jordan so special was that he knew as good as he was it was about the team. There were many games where he would defer to teammates or set up teammates for the majority of the game only to take over if needed in the 4th quarter. This kept teammates engaged and confident so the team was much better than Michael and a bunch of blue collar dudes. It meant that it was Michael and a bunch of guys that were a pretty darned good team even without Michael in the conversation.

You can get the whole game replay from https://cyclones.com/watch/on-demand/game-replays

Just to fill in some details to what you've already outlined:
  • Milan checks into the game around 3:45 left when Lipsey is shooting FTs after the Batemon 'heat check' 3.
  • At 3:07, Batemon checks back in for Milan following the Tugler timeout (probably intended as a defensive substitution) - Milan sitting on the bench.
  • At 2:23 just after the Uzan missed front end of a 1-1 (score 65-63 Houston), Milan is in front of the scorer's table
  • When Batemon hits the corner 3 to go up 66-65, you can see TJ go towards Milan and then Milan heads back to the bench. In the replay it's around 1:23:20.

Anyone with a link to Walters and Heft call of the Houston game?
