2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

Side semi-related rant: I blame that OSU tourney loss completely on the ref incorrectly calling a kicked ball to what was actually a steal (Hali got it with his hand). It was a 4 point swing at a critical moment when we were surging. Now I'm annoyed just thinking about it.

That play happened right in front of me.

Nick and Tyrese were going the other way two on zero clean when the whistle blew.

Tyrese almost pulled his hair out.

Who knows. Maybe they survive Ohio State and can right the ship and go on a run. They certainly proved they could the week before.

Sigh.

AJ Dybantsa is supposed to be a senior in high school right now, and will win Freshman of the year handily.

Toure is an absolute menace, and I hope he's in Ames for a few years
Not a leap considering he is in the running for national player of the year.

TBH, if we weren't shooting such a torrid rate, his rebounding might be higher.

Or if he spent more time near the basket. As a point forward who spends a lot of time initiating up top so his rebounding numbers will always look lower than a traditional power forward
Buchanan's rebounding, improvement by Milan inn this area, and solid rebounding by Lipsey, Toure, and Heise also eat into Jefferson's numbers.

I'm trying to remember that game and I have no recollection of it. I pulled up the box score and I still don't remember it, I don't even remember any of the OSU players. I remember the Aaron Craft game vividly, but not that one. I can't imagine I wouldn't have watched it - but I clearly banished it (maybe along with the rest of the post-Monte Prohm era) from my brain

All I remember is going down early, not being able to throw the ball in the ocean, and everyone except Shakyok completely disappearing.

Just looked up the box score and we were 6-22 from 3. Starters not named Shayok were 4-21 from the field and 0-8 from three. Wigginton and Lard had really good games off the bench.

Ohio State also shot like ****. We were within a possession or two the entire second half, but couldn't get over the hump.

They had a big that was good CSP refused to even throw an extra defender at occasionally to at least get him to have to look around a bit.

Iirc CSP afterwards did his classic 'Yeah we should have done that' in the post-game.

Virginia has been good to us

Except at the United Center, they were not good to us there. At all.
Another doozie of a tournament game. I was there and it was beyond depressing.

Went down big early and completely took the crowd out of it. Couldn’t get closer than 8 or 10 the rest of the way if I recall.

Feels like we’ve had a lot of tourney games go this way (e.g. Miami, Illinois, Ole Miss, Pitt)

That is a fascinating comparison - I saw the video and was just coming to comment on it. There are definitely similarities, but that Baylor team was #2 OPR and #22 DPR - basically the worst defensive team to win the title in 2 decades.

Davion Mitchell as a comp for Toure is really interesting.
I just learned that Davion Mitchell has the nickname “Off Night” which is so badass

Thats because Ohio St was a garbage team who shouldn't have even made the tournament. They slowed the tempo and made us play down ti their level. Prohm had no answer for it except to finally play Cam Lard and he looked like the best player in the game.

To me that game was the epitome of the Steve Prohm era. Doing less with more.

It was one of the more frustrating tournament games to watch that we've had. If we had put our game on the floor against those guys, it wouldn't have been close
