***2024 Olympics Thread***

I've been avoiding spoilers by day and watching the night coverage. Awesome night for women's swimming and gymnastics. Simone and Suni are two incredible athletes and tough humans with what they both came back from. Great to see Simone come back and shut up all the morons shitting on her after Tokyo.

Mansfield's AUS 3x3 team still on a run. Beat Azerbaijan 21-12 already this morning. Lauren scored 5 points (her single-game best) in the win.

Australia is now at the top of the table with a 4-1 record.

They face Spain at 5:30 a.m. CT today, then close out prelim play against France at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday.

Spain 21, Australia 17. Mansfield DNP, which is tough when it's game 2 of the day and there are only 4 players on the roster. Announcers indicated maybe a foot/ankle issue.

At 4-2, Australia should safely be in the bracket round. Tomorrow's game vs FRA could potentially be for a bye into the semis.

If you told me a week ago the US men’s soccer team actually had a decent chance at medalling I would have thought you were insane… and yet here we are. I’m almost certain France-Argentina is an elimination game, meaning if US beats Morocco, worst case scenario US gets either Egypt or Paraguay in the bronze medal game.

Someone give me some context for this match. Are we supposed to beat Morocco?

Morocco the slight favorite going into this. Always hard to peg "favorites" for U23 though, especially with the handful of over-age players they can throw in at the Olympics. For context, at the senior level Morocco is #14 in FIFA rankings vs #16 for USA and they got 4th at the 2022 World Cup.

Also the silver medalist from Brazil, who came back from 3 ACL tears. Great night of action!

US men’s soccer: disappointment any time you get your hopes up.

That marking defensively on that second Morocco goal was embarrassing
I turned it on just in time to watch them hand the ball to Morocco and let them run straight down and score with almost no contest. Just garbage.
