One of the US men's beach volleyball team had an absolute collapse in the first set against Cuba. Gave up 8 straight points after getting a decent lead.

It's a bummer that Sander and Crabb didn't try to qualify.

Interesting that the Wagners have their first name on their jersey.

Women’s cycling time trial has been hard to watch for this US woman (Taylor Knibb). She’s in 2nd after the 2nd time check, but was leading by a considerable margin after the 1st time check. She has wrecked twice (it is raining, so very slick conditions) and had to have her bike switched out due to mechanical issues. When the bike was switched out, the dude who ran it to her slipped himself and landed right on top of the second bike.

Feel terrible for her. Hopefully she can pull off some magic the rest of the way. She is obviously talented, just a string of really bad luck.

They kept cutting back to it over and over. And then the weirdest jump cut happened as it went under the last bridge, the camera immediately went to the shot of the next rider on top of the real horse heading to the Olympic stage. I’m not surprised they didn’t show that part in the prime time footage either.
It was an almost four-mile trip down the Seine, that’s gonna take a while. But yeah, the jarring cut from robohorse coming to the bridge to suddenly a real horse coming down the plaza was weird.

It cheapens medal counts. The US media will jam it down everyone’s throat when the US has the most medals at the end of the Olympics. Well…
And cheating doesn't? I know it's not why they are banned, but they cheated for decades and the corrupt IOC always turned a blind eye. I'd be fine with Russia being perma banned until there is legitimate change in leadership of that country because you know it's not going to change with Putin in charge.

I think we are talking about different things. If athletes are known to be cheating, they should not be allowed to compete, regardless of country. I agree with this wholeheartedly.

They are not being sanctioned/banned during this Olympic cycle for systematic cheating though. They have athletes who can compete, who I would assume are clean and not cheating. The fact that those athletes cannot compete as a team/country is my beef.

Russia and Belarus have been banned completely. Individual athletes can compete. Not as a team/country though.
Oh I see. So team events they can’t compete in. That probably only affects a handful of events though. Volleyball for sure, maybe handball, rugby.

Russia isn’t competitive in a lot of summer team sports (basketball, baseball, etc.)
