Your average team should be around 7 wins, if they get to 9 then you can call BS all day and I’ll be right there with ya. I think they get 7 or 8

They do it very often, the Big Ten west and now this 3 guaranteed rivals have a lot to do with it.

Unfortunately ISU playing like crap out of the gate in September also has a lot to do with it.

If they only get to 8 wins this year part of it will be ISU snapping out of it in the second half.

So as of today you'd agree that Iowa is better than every other Big 12 team except ISU and KSU?
I think they’d have a shot to beat any team in the Big 12. Not the case with them in the B10. But I’d also say that their schedule is garbage and they play significantly worse teams rest of the year than ISU does. Because the middle/bottom of the B1G is trash

It's not perfect, but there's no other way to evaluate all the crappy teams on your remaining schedule.

Tell me how you'd objectively compare the rest of the schedule given Iowa has zero ranked teams left and ISU only has two? What's a better metric to objectively sort those crap teams left on your schedule?

And...I do think Iowa wouldn't be far off the best teams in the Big 12. The Big 12 just has a ton of teams in the 15-30 range and even with today's result I'd have Iowa in 25-30 range.

Not sure why any skill position player would want to play for Iowa.
Well running backs might but QB’s & WR’s must be their only shot at a Power Conf scholarship. But KF does get the best punters which is the skill position he covets.

Btw today agree there are some trash big ten teams but with the new additions the Big12 also has many trash teams now. Just look at the out of conference play, outside of the Iowa win it’s real rough out there

All I'm saying is that I remember before the season started and people were talking crap about SoS, at that time if you had Kansas and Okie St. on your schedule that was giving your SoS a very nice bump. Five weeks in, Kansas and Okie State are both unranked and hot garbage.

And Iowa’s conference schedule is still trash….

Fair point. I think you just have to remember last year when we’re all b!tching about iowas schedule. If isu won 10 games without scoring a point against a ranked team, I hope you’d call us phony.

We won 4 games in 2022 and put up some decent points against ranked teams. It’s tough to argue your point when 2023 is so fresh

Before the season I'd have looked at Iowa's schedule like this:
- nearly guaranteed loss @OSU
- tough home game against ISU
- potential tough road trip out west to UCLA
- rack up lots of wins against mediocre middle and bottom of Big Ten, just the defense alone will get a lot of those wins

Before the season I'd have looked at ISU's like this:
- tough road game @iowa
- really tough road game @utah (not looking as tough now, but still not easy)
- lots of coin toss games vs teams that should be about 20th-40th, the conference has a ton of balance. ISU is one of those 20-40 teams itself but as long as we have no losses we'll be ranked higher than 20.

It hasn't changed radically. Using Sagarin five weeks in to evaluate crap teams on your schedule isn't crazy and it's a lot more data than using them in week one. There's no better way to do it.

BYU looks better than we thought. OK State looks worse than we thought, the rest of the Big 12 looks exactly as I expected. Good but not great.

Iowa is going to move down significantly in those rankings after today. Coming into today, it is what it is.
