Only an idiot would allow a head coach to strong arm their son onto the staff and coach in waiting.
A stretch like that would be the high water mark for their program. They haven’t had a coach approach anything like that in a long time. And just got rid of the guy who came the closest probably.
To be fair, he's already an active Power 4 coordinator. I probably wouldn't make that commitment if I'm AD, but it's not like Stephen isn't qualified...
If we're being fair and not making jokes (what fun is that) Brian Ferentz was qualified to be OC at Iowa, the problem came when it came time to fire him when it was obvious it didn't work out.
In this scenario, has Bill ever been a part of a team that had a bad defense? I'm just not sure it's possible for him to be a head coach and have the defensive side be bad because he's so involved. So if he wants to bring in his son to be the DC, whatever he can make Mickey Mouse the DC and the defense will be good. If he wants his son to be HC in waiting, that's a tougher sell but it's only a problem if the hire works out, otherwise you just fire them both and find someone else.
The problem the NC admin faces right now is they've already given their fanbase the red meat of the greatest football coach of all time. It'll be a hard sell to then turn around and hire a sunbelt coach.

Apparently Koltelchi (sp) was wren's choice, but boosters were not on board bc guy has zero head coaching experience and wvu has been down that road before(dana).
dana was a great oc, but a below average head guy. fans dont want to see that rerun play out. wvu would lose to ou 58-55. no defense or toughness. Becht was given a courtesy interview. Army hc was interviewed as part of due diligence.

Guess you can get by with a three year contract today, if the coach is willing to rent players. Not like BB has experience recruiting high school players.
