I can’t imagine Casey wanting to redshirt after competing this year, but I have no special insight on the situation. I’d be curious to know how much wrestlers defer to coaches on this sort of decision. As much as I want what’s best for the team, I want the wrestlers to enjoy their lives and do what’s best for them even more.
I agree that I think it would be difficult for Casey to redshirt. One major consideration is if he needs surgery to repair his shoulder (speculation on the mid year injury) a RS would be very valuable in his rehab schedule.

I thought Casey's dad has already been in here saying there is no plan to redshirt him?

Also, he seemed small at 141, right? Or no?

Guess I need to clean my glasses...looked like half the kids he wrestled, especially in the tournament, were physically more imposing than him.
When I watch Casey wrestle this is where I think he needs to improve. It looks like he’s still trying to bully guys in college. Worked in high school, not in D1. His style is in your face but with agility and speed. He could get a lot stronger and take that style up a weight or two and be better off than sucking down

I’d be interested to know if 141 was difficult for him like 157 was for Carr. Getting stronger without gaining weight is definitely doable with modern training techniques. But if he is sucking down hard then going up makes tons of sense. Who knows and obviously nobody knows more than his dad.

Speaking of his dad. I love Casey’s in your face no ***** given style. I’d take a whole team of those kids.

My question with Carr on 157 is similar…is that a better weight for Carr rather than 165? If this is his first year there has he mentioned or is it understood that he prefers 65? Spitballing but if HE would/could/prefer 57, Rojas at 165 and Gaitan at 174 could be rather appealing IMO

Or with Kraisser showing such marked improvment is he the better bet to solidify 57 and keep Rojas/Gaitan battling for a single weight at 174?

Carr will not be at 157

No real news, but the Team Score Breakdown image is a stark reminder of how we could have finished if Bastida and Johnson wrestled to their potential.

125- Perryman/Cabanban/Terukina
133- Grice/Ramazan/Redding/Frost
141- Redding/Grice/Frost
149- Paniro
157- Kraisser (Casey redshirt?)
165- Carr
174- Gaitan
184- Broderson/Naak?
197- Hagerty if Yonger doesnt go back down?
Hwt- Yonger/Schon- will Yonger redshirt?

Still a ways to go with the transfer market, but to me the biggest hole is at 184 and then 197 if Yonger doesn't go back down. Hwt is also a question mark if Yonger redshirts. Finalist contender at 165. AA contenders at 133, 149, 157, 174. Should be solid at 125 and 141, but not sure if the guys there are true AA contenders (but there is a lot of time this summer for some of those guys to develop).

If Casey plans to redshirt, a slow build isn’t a bad idea. Spend a year at 149 in RS then continue building over a 2 year period to 157. Also Euton at 157 is a play

Love the depth at the lower weights. Fight it out & may the best man win.

I don’t know the extent of the injury but if Hagerty had to get his shoulder worked on, that’d basically eliminate him for the 23-24 season.

It seemed pretty bad at state wrestling.

If Casey is as big (when not cutting) as some say, might have to cut to be at 149 :D

I forget he won a state title at 152.
I know the weight cut was a real thing last year, his dad said as much. And when he won state he was wrestling up to get the best competition possible. He also wrestled Mendez in the super match who we knew was smaller and ended up going 133. I think the best is yet to come for Casey when he settles in and just works on top/bottom rather than cutting so much. If he gets big and strong and works his top bottom development, watch out. He will pick his weight at 149 or 157, which leaves us another roster battle of studs. Hopefully it works itself out.
