You can't just say "oh well when he played well he was great!" He truly had a horrific season offensively. Just perusing the B12 he sticks out as an outlier in regards to minutes played, his usage, and his inefficiency. He had easily the worst PER among B12 players who were above like 8th in their team's rotation. Gabe was one of only a handful of players in the conference with negative OWS and "led" that category by a fairly wide margin. came close to matching Gabe's ORtg. Cottrell is a center for WV that shot 34% from the field, averaged more turnovers than assists, and funny enough shot better from 3 than Gabe.
I understand what Gabe brings on defense. But the idea that he was just "inconsistent" is wrong. He has blow up games very infrequently but absolutely hurts you on offense in basically every other game. There's realistically no excuse for it if Gabe is asked to have a similar role offensively next year.
